Atfer finding my Great great grandfather John Taylor in 1871 at the Masons Arms, I`ve gone back to 1861. From the start of Penygelli Road to it`s joining with Ruthin Road there are eight stonemasons. Do you reckon they all went to the un-named dwelling where Sarah Jones 63 widow , was a publican and this is why it was called the Masons Arms, Apart from my John Taylor there was also Richard Taylor and Samuel Taylor all stonemasons, I wonder if they were related. I`m beginning to wonder just how many unknown relations I may have in the area. The first dwelling on Ruthin Road was occupied by JOHN CARRINGTON 27 PUCLICAN , SARAH 26 AND THOMAS 2.

I have noticed that a lot of people were listed as stonemasons, Is this the fact that they probably worked in the local Quarry with Rock Just a thought because one of my ancestors was once listed as a Stonemason and later as a Rock Man, he was working at berwig Quarry Tracey

In 1851 John Taylor 24 and Elizabeth 22 b Llandegla are at Nant, On the same page at Penygelli are Samuel Taylor 47 Master mason b Wrexham Elizabeth 45 b Leicestershire.
Are they father and son ??
1861 John Taylor 34 mason b Wrexham Elizabeth 32 wife b Llandegla Samuel son 7 Ann dau 6
1871 Masons Arms John Taylor 44 Mason Elizabeth 42 Samuel 17 Mason Anne 16 Elizabeth J 8 Catherine 5 Harriet 7 mths
1881 Masons Arms John Taylor 54 Stonemason Elizabeth 52 Elizabeth Jane 18 Pupil teacher Bd School Harriet 10
I know Anne has married in 1876 to Joseph Wilcoxon. Samuel has married. Where is Catherine ? Can`t find a death for her in WXm dist, she is too young to have married
1881 9 Napier St Wrexham Samuel Taylor 27 Stonemason Mary wife 32 b Llandrillo ?? Mary Eliz 6 months
1891 Masons Arms John Taylor 64 Mason Elizabeth 62 Samuel widw 37 Mason Harriet 20 Dressmaker Mary Elizabeth gd dau. 10
1901 Penygelli Road. Elizabeth Taylor wid 72 Inn keeper Mary E gd dau 20.
It seems from all these records that John & Elizabeth were publicans for at least 30 years. The name of the Inn in 1901 is not the Masons, it is at 11 Penygelli Road, and begins with R. Does anyone have any idea what it could be ? Also any more info on the daughters and Samuel would be great, I know of no relatives in the area from the Coedpoeth families and to find some would be really interesting.

I haven't come up with anything definitive, but the enumerator or clerk is getting a bit tired at this point and has already made one mistake at the top of the page and crossed it through. On the following page there is "Rock Place" and I wonder whether he was getting his papers mixed up again, and had started to write "Rock Inn", crossed it through, and just written the work "Inn" after the crossing through?
Also, having checked some trade directories I get the impression that the Masons Arms - sometimes the Miners Arms - was not always considered important enough to be included, probably a totally subjective opinion of the agent concerned!

I`ve decided to do some more on this side of my family, so am bringing it `up front` again.
Already have two marriages to check. ;D Marr Dec 1849 St Giles. John Taylor. = Elizabeth Davies / Williams
1851 Adwy John Taylor 24 mason b Wrexham Elizabeth 22 b Llandegla
June 1879 St Giles Samuel Taylor / Mary Davies
1881 9 Napier St Wrexham Samuel Taylor 27 Stonemason Mary wife 32 b Llandrillo ?? Mary Eliz 6 months
Buried in Ruabon Road Cemetery. Same grave. How sad, Samuel lost his daughter and wife within 9 months. TAYLOR ANNIE age 4 8 FAIRFIELD STREET 24/05/1885 grave 03548 TAYLOR MARY age 36 8 FAIRFIELD STREET 21/01/1886 grave 03548 TAYLOR SAMUEL 1897 age 44 PENYGELLI RD,COEDPOETH 22/07/1897 grave 03548
I wonder if Samuel b 1803 and Elizabeth were in Wrexham in 1841 ?
