Thank you so much for finding all that for us.
I will do some more work on finding family members-if William had any children.
I am very grateful for all the help from this board.
J H Roberts is buried at Cambrin Church cemetery.
The RWF site is adding names daily. J H seems to have been one of the first 4th Battalion men to be killed. The family story is that he was hit by a sniper.
Again my thanks Sue

Dear Fellow Genealogists !!
I have studied the 2 Public Trees on Ancestry for John Henry Roberts and Jane Owen and there are glaring mistakes. It might be that the owners are not actually related to us.
I am in the fortunate position of being in touch with some of my fathers cousins and thus being able to verify most of the info that I have.
This is just a warning to anyone who finds a Tree that they should treat it with some scepticism until they have verified it properly using records and hopefully finding family members. Don't add the info to your tree until you are sure of the facts!!
Good luck in your searches. Once again my thanks to the people on this site who have helped me so much
Sue

I have studied the 2 Trees found on Ancestry and find that they both have glaring mistakes so I am uncertain as to whether they really are ours!
Elizabeth Roberts b 1908 married Ernest Smith in 1929 in Leeds area-according to her Tree. Supposedly they had 4 girls and 1 boy.Names are kept private but the boy, I find, was or might have been the William E Smith who married Barbara Pallister in 1956 in Wharfedale which is West Yorkshire/West Riding area.Barbara has a picture and died in 2011
On the Tree they had 7 children but I think that she has borrowed from other Smith /Pallister marriages on the Freebmd records as the births are rather close together but also in various Northern towns!!
Further lookups reveal that they married in Doncaster in 1928 and William E Smith was the last child born so that much is true.
William Owen Roberts died in Doncaster in 1991-born 9 April 1906 which is verified by the Salem Chapel records.I haven't been certain of a marriage for him yet..He might have married Elizabeth E Edwards in Wrexham in 1924 or/and Elsie Harding in 1934 there. There were 2 Roberts/Harding children born in Doncaster and lots of Roberts/Edwards in Wrexham
The SMITH girls were probably Joyce 1928/Mavis 1930/Margaret p 1931/Elsie early 1932 or Beryl later in 1932/William E 1933.all born Doncaster.
Does any of this ring a bell with anyone?
Many thanks for any help given Sue

Eluned I have tried the www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk site. It didn't find anything for a lookup on Roberts/Harding births but 3 names just on Roberts for 1934 and others earlier. but transcribing seems to have stopped there for some parishes in Doncaster district. Freebmd turned up Gordon in 1934 for Roberts/Harding in Doncaster. But he isn't one of the ones on yorkshirebmd In 1933 there was the death of Elizabeth Roberts 45 in Doncaster. This is if my guess of 2 marriages for William Owen Roberts is correct. BUT he would have been only 27 then and 18/19 when they married. I don't discount this one as my husbands great,great-uncle had a similiar marriage with a big age gap in Devon/Cornwall in 1830's with several children born. In 1932 Elizabeth E Roberts died aged 24 at Pwllheli. She would have been 16/17 at their marriage but E E is possibly right. Sue
