I am needing some help locating records for a Joseph Hughes who was born in 1822 and died in 1867. All I have found so far is the information below. If you have anything else that might help me, please let me know. (Birthdate, burial location, spouse, children, occupation, etc would be great.)
Surname: HUGHES Forename: Joseph Sub-District: Wrexham Registers At: Wrexham County Borough (Wrexham) Reference: WM/023/30 Volume: 11b Page: 212 Death Year: 1867 Age at Death: 45 Birth Year: 1822
I also contacted the Wrexham Register's Office and they informed me they have a record in the burials register for the parish of Wrexham for a Joseph Hughes. He is listed as having died 13 July 1867 at age 45 and that he had lived on Holt Street. I don't know for sure if that is same person listed in the death record. Does anyone have access to viewing that record?
Also, I was told he may have been buried at the following cemeteries, but I can't figure out how to access those records to see if it's him: Civil Cemetery in Ruthin Road, in the graveyard of St Giles Parish Church, or possibly the Dissenters' Graveyard in Rhosddu Road.
Thank you very much.
~Jennifer

Hi Jennifer and welcome There was only one death of a Joseph Hughes in Wrexham in 1867 so the one mentioned by Wrexham Register Office is the same one. The Register Office wouldn't keep the burial records though, they would be refering to his death certificate which is what the reference number you give refers to. You would need to purchase this certificate to gain further information. As you don't have any children and appear to only have limited details for him, are you working from a previous generation forwards? Was he a son or husband of someone in your tree?

Thank you for the welcome, eluned. I have received my copy of Joseph Hughes' death certificate. I wanted to post the information here in hopes that I might get some help in finding out any more information, particularly where exactly he worked and his family members of that time. Would love to know how and if the Samuel Hughes and John Hughes listed on the certificate are related to Joseph as well. Thank you so much, I really appreciate any help! Here is the information on the certificate: -Registration District: Wrexham -Death in the Sub-District of: Wrexham -In the Counties of: Denbigh & Flint -When and Where Died: July 10th, 1867, Holt Street, Wrexham -Name and Surname: Joseph Hughes -Sex: Male -Age: 45 -Occupation: Silver Refiner -Cause of Death: Pneumonia (Certified) -Signature, Description and Residence of Informant: X The mark of Samuel Hughes, Present at the death, Brymbo When Registered: July 11th, 1867 Signature of Registrar: John Hughes

Hi, John Hughes the Registrar was able to read and write and hold the job of registrar. Samuel Hughes, present at the death, could only leave his mark, not sign his name, so it seems unlikely that they are related to each other as brothers but maybe cousins.Or just a coincidence that they have the same surname.[BUT I might be wrong!! ] To see if Joseph could read or write you would need to find out more about him.Have you found him and Samuel together on any of the censuses? Any sign of a will or a marriage certificate?

Hello. I am a little confused. If someone was a cousin and not a brother back then, were they not allowed to sign their name?
Also, I have not found a marriage certificate at all. I was hoping someone on here could help point me in the right direction. I have been informed by others that they have bee unable to locate Joseph in census records. Is it possible then Joseph could not read and write?

Also, does anyone know where I can find a list of Silver Refiners from that time period in hopes of finding him?

Hi Jennifer and welcome As you don't have any children (listed) and appear to only have limited details for him, are you working from a previous generation forwards? Was he a son or husband of someone in your tree? Do you have him or any of his children listed on a census? More info you give the better especially when dealing with common surnames! eluned

To clarify, I do not have any census records. I am on here asking if anyone has access to census records that would help, marriage records, a place showing where he worked. I've listed all I have. I'm new at this.

Hi, Samuel Hughes, present at the death, could only leave his mark, not sign his name, so it seems unlikely that they are related to each other as brothers but maybe cousins.Or just a coincidence that they have the same surname.[BUT I might be wrong!! ] I think susan is just explaining that Samuel couldn't write rather than wasn't allowed too. I would have thought he would have been listed as brother if he was such but as yet wouldn't totally rule that out.

I think what I'm getting at is how did you connect to Joseph? A tree grows so have you climbed up or down so to speak ;D
Was he someones dad, uncle or son?

HOWES, Joseph Registration District: Help Aylesbury County: Buckinghamshire Year of Registration: 1849 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Spouse's last name: Not available before 1912 Volume No: Help 6 Page No: Help 393 Name: BRIANT, Emma Registration District: Aylesbury County: Buckinghamshire Year of Registration: 1849 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Spouse's last name: Not available before 1912 Volume No: 6 Page No: 393
If the above is the right family maybe this is the marriage for Joseph and Emma but one wonders why Joseph was in Buckinghamshire.

Thanks, nainffrith4. I appreciate it. Sadly that one couldn't be it because it shows on the death certificate that he died at age 45 in 1867, so the birth year on what you shared is too late for it to be the same person.

Following back from the 1861 Census found by nainffrith4 there is an entry for Holywell in 1841 for Joseph Hughes b. about 1826 with his parents John and Elizabeth Hughes and his two brothers William b. about 1821 and SAMUEL born about 1831 all births in Flintshire. The father John Hughes was a Smelter. Regards - Margaret.

Hello marajade3, You have come to a great place to get help, I am a newcomer here and have been able to add five generations to my family tree since I joined. I think you probable have the answer above but here is another possible but not likely 18 Nov 1821 bap/o Joseph DAVIES (HUGHES) illeg. s/o Edward HUGHES (taylor) of Parkeyton & Sarah DAVIES (servant) of Morton this from freespace.virgin.net/jill.farndon25/H.htmlIt would make him the right age but I know that in the records my g grandfather got younger rather than older as time passed I think eluned asked the crucial question in posting #9 Why did you decided to look at Joseph Hughes? There is, presumable, some link to the tree you are researching.
