Is there a record of the graves & a plan for Gwersyllt Church cemetery please? Someone once told me the grave records had been lost or damaged. I need to know where in the church yard relatives are buried.
Many thanks

Hi John, I too have been looking for grave records in the church cemetery, and on a personal visit I was able to meet the church Sexton who advised me that if I furnished him with the names for which I was looking he would contact me. I was unlucky in my quest but what I'm saying there must be some records available. Hen Locsin

Thanks for the information - I'll pop up there.
I have found my great X 2 grandparents grave, which has a headstone and in the vicinity my mother, as a child, remembers where great grandfather was buried - I need to check if they are in the same graves.
Many thanks again

Some names and dates may help, you mentioned that there were some Foulkes. I came across this family while looking for mine, but I can`t find a link . I know where they are buried.
1881 OLD RHOSROBIN RG11 5518/47 PAGE 40
John Foulkes 26 Coal miner b Wrexham Mary wife 28 b Wrexham James son 4 b Gwersyllt Helena ? (Selena ) dau 2 b Gwersyllt
Gwersyllt Graveyard John Foulkes died Jan 4 1916 aged 60 husband of Mary of Rhosddu Mary his wife died April 10 1936 aged 80 Selina their daughter died March 24 1963 aged 79
Helena and Selina are the same person, Selina is the correct name. She died unmarried. This family are a great mystery to me, John, Mary and Selina are buried in Gwersyllt, my Mum showed me the grave and told me he was an uncle, but I cannot find the link even though my Nana was a Foulkes.
I was given a tip by the vicar of another Church with no plans, he told me to look for the entry in the burial register, and then make a note of the ten entries before and after. They will probably be in adjacent plots, By the law of averages some should have headstones, and if you look for headstones around that year, then hopefully you will find some of them close by, of course if there are no headstones then you are stuck ! This did work for me at his church. I suppose you could also try asking a local funeral director, they may know. This one does a lot from the area. Thank you for the advice - great help.
I do not have a strong Foulkes connection with Gwersyllt. My great grandfather William Foulkes born abt 1858 - Mow Cop (Staffordshire). He married Sarah Hughes b1858 (from Gwersyllt) at Gwersyllt 1880. William died 1936 Sarah 1910. Lived at Farfield Cottages, Chapel Street, Wheatsheaf, Gwersyllt
Williams parents were Robert & Elizabeth Foulkes. Robert born Mold area abt 1837 & Elizabeth Mold or Flint abt 1823.
My mother remember being taken to see William’s grave a few days after the burial, as a child. I took her to Gwersyllt church and she took me straight to the vicinity of Robert and Elizabeths grave.
William & Sarah's children were:
William Stewart (Known as William) b 1881 d 1959 (Hampshire) Worked on local newspapers. Moved to Portsmouth where he met his wife.
Ellen May (known as Nelly) b1884 died 1965 Shrewsbury. Married Thomas Ephraim Hannaby from Gwersyllt
Robert Verner (Known as Vern)1888 emigrated to Argintina to work on Railways date of death not known. Married Elizabeth Hughes from Hope
Arnold Stanley b1891 d1892
Blodwen Powis (Grandmother & known as Powis) b 1894 d1992 Connah’s Quay. Married Samuel Charles Davies from Brymbo. He was the football cartoonist for local papers after WW2.
Capel Stewart (known as Stewart) b 1896 d 1968 Shrewsbury. Married Elizabeth Edmondson from Wrexham area
Nora Foulkes b1896 d 1898
Once again many thanks
