Hi
I am interested to know if anyone has been looking at a family in Brymbo called Taylor. I have records of them from the very early 1700s on; all the oldest sons, who took over the tenancy of the family farm, were called either Edward or Simon, alternating through each generation.
In 1838 I have a Simon Taylor who according to his will seems to have named his eldest son Robert. He also had sons called Edward and Simon. Robert Taylor, incidentally, became a deacon at the Brymbo Calvinistic Methodist chapel.
They seem to be a very large family so it would be interesting to hear if anyone else knows of them.

Hi, I have a Margaret Taylor who was born c1831, daughter of an Edward Taylor. I have no information about Edward and have been unable to find Margaret's mother. Margaret married Edward Griffiths in Brymbo on 11 February 1854 and died Long Row, Brymbo in July 1860. I have no idea whether she was born in Brymbo. Does this fit with any of the Edward Taylors you know of in Brymbo? Nellie

Nellie Hi Nellie I'm not sure - her father could be the Edward Taylor who was the younger brother of Robert Taylor mentioned in Simon Taylor's will above. The problem is that each generation of the family had three or four sons, and like a lot of people stuck to the same names for each generation, so that's potentially a lot of Edward Taylors...however I did note that this Edward Taylor had a sister called Margaret, so it was clearly a family name. There was a John Taylor who owned the Mount in the same period and who was probably also related in some way.

Hi lb, I haven't looked at this for some time and your posting made me re-examine the information I have. I thought that Margaret was the daughter of Edward Taylor and Jane Ph(o)enix married 22 November 1825 in Brymbo. I have just discovered that a Frances Taylor married Edward Williams on the same day as Margaret married Edward Griffiths and she was also the daughter of Edward Taylor collier. Looking at the 1851 census Fanny Taylor was living with her widowed mother Jane Taylor Tan Y Mount, Brymbo. Jane was living at The Mount in 1861 (Jane Tailer) with various grandchildren. However I think that as John Taylor brother of Fanny and son of Jane was born in 1822, I should be looking at the marriage of Edward Taylor to Jane Williams 28 November 1812 Wrexham parish. Interestingly 2 of the grandsons are called Edward Taylor and with Margaret and Frances both marrying an Edward it must have made things very confusing!
