Do you have your father's birth certificate and parents marriage certificate? These will both give details enabling you to work backwards on your tree. Birth certificates give parents details including the mother's maiden name and marriage certificates provide both fathers' names and occupations.

Free BMD doesn`t come up with a marriage Sorry, we found no matches. Search for Type: Marriages Surname: owens First name(s): jim / james. Start date: Mar 1900 End date: Dec 1980 Spouse/Mother's surname: hughes Spouse's first name(s): phyllis
North Wales BMD only has this one, James Owens married either Mary or Phyllis. North Wales Marriage indexes for the years: 1930 OWENS James Wrexham, Civil Marriage CROFTS Mary WM/102/94 LOVE James WM/102/94 WILLIAMS Phyllis WM/102/94 We really do need more dates . You say she died when you were born, you could be 76 or 17, we don`t know

Does anyone have a copy of your grandparents marriage certificate? If not you may like to purchase one either from the Register Office in Wrexham or via this link link As the marriage found by Annedws was a 'Civil' one, it isn't possible to obtain a copy from any Parish Registers - it either took place in a chapel or at the Register Office. The cert will help to confirm you are researching the correct line by giving you further information inc the couples fathers' details

You may be interested to know that member abeer has done some research on the family too! Another great Aunt ( Mary Alice Owens nee Hulm) I found living in the twenty houses with her husband David and some of her children with the rest being boarded out to the grandparents(Owen Owens) in the Five Crosses pub. She had 12 children between 1899 and 1920 poor soul! Alison

Jane Elizabeth Owens born 1882 lived at with her parents at the pub.
She married my great uncle John Henry Roberts and they had 3 children. The last one was Freda born early in 1914.Her siblings were William and ,I think from memory,Mary. I haven't found any descendants of them. Always hoping!!
By using BMD I have found that Freda married John? Deadman from Sussex in about 1935/6 and I believe had 3 children but again I haven;t found any descendants
John Henry Roberts was a Company Serg Major in the 4th Batt Royal Welch Fusiliers--Territorials.They went to France in Nov 1914 and he was killed in July 1915.Remembered on the Coedpoeth War Memorial. So Jane was left with 3 children but I haven't discovered what happened to them all. You can find more on the Roberts family, with some photos, under 3 Threads ''WW1 Roberts soldiers'', Roland Roberts and ''William Roberts and Harriet Jones'' Might your Uncle Leslie remember any stories about any of them? Are there any photos of John Henry and his wife jane Owens. I had access to a photo album in my family put together by Mary Jane Aldred nee Roberts, my grandmother, but there were no names given!!Some people I managed to identify with help from cousins on both sides of the family but not all.
Good luck in your search
Sue
