Hello All, Ive been talking with my Mam over here in Vancouver and I was asking her if she remembered the shop on Ruthin road. It was on the left hand side of the road just before Rhosberse road if you were heading to Wrexham. She is adamant the the old Co-op was the last shop before Wrexham and I say otherwise. Can you settle the argument please.

You are correct! The last shop was not the old Co-Op but...... 'Oswalds shop' on the left hand side between New Road and Heol Offa. My father tells me the shop sold 'everything'.

There was a Coop shop just before Oswalds on the right hand side, going towards Wrexham, almost opposite Loft Wen, on the corner of what was an unadopted road, before Lester Villas coming the other way.

I don't think 'Oswalds' was the last shop......................there was a shop on the same side after the turning for Heol Offa................also I'm pretty sure there was also a shop almost opposite 'Oswalds'............not that long ago as I was born in 1955

Oswalds was the last shop on the left as you were heading to Wrexham. Now! back up toward the village the Co-op or "kwop" in local lingo was on the left, Then further up towards the park there was another shop again on the left,Opposite the old graveyard. Next door to it was an empty shop which later became a chip shop. Anyone remember the name?

The shop was owned by 2 Brummie families ........Tonks and Baines............they also owned and ran the chip shop................................and I think you're wrong regarding Oswalds being the last shop....................

Thanks Tonks and Baines Yes! Before that though, and before the chip shop, It was just the little shop, The chip shop building was empty for years as I recall. You may be right about another shop down from Oswalds but I dont remember. I remember the house on the corner of Heol Offa and Ruthin road, It had a nasty little corgi by the back door that would scare the bejesus out of you when you walked by.

Before Tonks & Baines it was called Roberts.............there was also a shop opposite called 'Glyns' I think...................also Mr Ford's wooden shop on the same side towards the village, opposite the park.

I'm a little younger than you chaps, so dont remember the shops you mention. For my generation, the one with a little nostalgia has to be 'Harry Junks' Shop on Llywellyn Road. A lot more of our shops have gone in recent years and no doubt others to follow. 'Jonah Lloyds' newsagents closed recently... The granting of permission for both the garage to become the mini market that it is and the Spar on the High Street were real wise decisions by our council planning department... NOT! To think how many small shops have closed since...
