Hi Just browsing, not looking for anything in particular and BINGO. This thread has just proved a link that I am researching the correct Joneses (you how how it is with Joneses, never 100% sure you have the correct one ) I was always fairly sure I had the correct family now its confirmed From the above list I read Thomas Owen Lot as a nickname. My family knew they were called the Lots but not sure why. I came up with a theory, as they were (I thought) descended from a chap called Lot Jones and as his g/son is called Thomas Owen I am now sure I have the correct ancestors. My Dad worked down the pit and he makes us laugh recalling the nicknames they had for each other Nev Chops (my Dad), Glyn Ulcers (his brother) and a few others like Dai 6 months ( half his ear was missing and Dai central heating (only 2 front teeth) My dads friend was called Alan Cabbage. Back to Thomas Owen Lot. He was sadly killed at Plas Power in 1931. (as mentioned in another thread) Elaine Just goes to show...Being nosy and reading other peoples threads, pays. You never know what snippets of info you may come across

Hi Just found this thread, my Father was know in Coedpoeth and the Adwy as Bob rabbit as he caught rabbits to sell, my Sister Glenys and I had the job of taking them to the customers on a Saturday afternoon. He had a friend named Walter pigeon, and another named Walter mule. My Father Bob Williams worked at llay Main and sadly passed away 1954.

Great thread! Quite a few names there that I haven't heard since my childhood, and some of the older ones from (overhearing the adults chatting). The name 'spider' cropped up in my family tree investigations, name came about as he was the pianist at Coedpoeth Picture House, and used to play 'spider in the web' .

I'm descended from "Teulu Growsyn" which I had never seen written down by anyone; but I always thought it would be "Growsen". Mind you, I don't know where the name comes from, and neither had a couple of generations of the family. It might have been a C19 Welsh singular back-formed from the English "grouse" (rather than ceiliog mynydd or grugiar), but I always assumed there would turn out to be a "Grouse Inn" in our history somewhere. I know of no Grouse Inn having been anywhere nearer than Llansanffraid Glyn Dyfrdwy / Carrog. The family name seems to have come from over Rhos way to the Nant with John Roberts in the middle of the C19: does anyone know of there having been a Grouse Inn in Rhos?
