That is wonderful , thank you so much. I have found a few earlier Wilco-ck`s in the PR`s , but need to copy them out carefully before I post them One is the marriage of Roger Willco-cke and Elizabeth Phillips at St Giles in 1678. There were a few more around at that time in Bersham. Then I found this , quite interesting. Patronymics making an appearance. At least it`s not John ap John ap John hdl.handle.net/10107/40643Wilco-cke, Roger ap Jenkin ap, Lleweni, Henllan, Denbigh, Gent : bond, 1669. I am struggling with this In the will of John 1850 he mentions Ty Mawr in Llanrhaeadr y Crimmerch ( Nghinmerch ) I think I have found this place in Clicedig, it`s between Prion and Llanraeadr. I wonder if it`s linked to Roger. www.visionofbritain.org.uk/relationships.jsp?u_id=10013288

Thanks for the will transcript lb, I'm trying to connect this one through to the one annedw found for 1781. I hope the 1781 will belongs to John's (1762-1850) father.

Ref #48 Thomas and Ann - Married 09 Jul 1826 St John the Baptist Chester
Perhaps this is the reason they married in Chester This from "A History of the Older Nonconformity of Wrexham and its Neighbourhood"
'In June, 1823, Mr. Bell resigned the pastorate and went to Lancaster, and an interval of four years then followed, during which there was no regular minister.'

I would have thought the 1718/1785 wills were connected as by the look of things they seem to mention the same properties.
Unfortunately the 1669 document is a bond only, binding the will's administrator, so it doesn't say much about what Roger ap Jenkyn's property might have been:
"The condicion of this obligacion it saith; that is the above bounden William Jones aliesman [i.e. a relative] and administrator of all and singular the goods cattells and chattells of Roger ap Jenkin ap Willc-cke late of lleweny and p[ar]ishe of henllan in the diocese of St Asaphe gent deceased doo & will well & truely administer all & singular the goods cattells and chattells of the said deceadent & pay or cause to bee paid all & singular the debts and legacies of the said deceadent as farre forth as the said goods [shall?] extend & as the lawe will binde him in that [regard]"
I had a quick look through Norden's survey of Bromfield (1620) to try and trace the properties in Wrexham in that time, but nothing jumped out immediately; there were certainly no Wilc-cks in that period holding land in Wrexham Regis. Similarly, there were none in the township of Bersham, though I did find a couple of fields called "Cae Wilc-ck" in Ruabon! Of course, this doesn't mean they weren't there, just that they might not have owned land at that time, as the survey only records land ownership. It would be interesting to see how far back they appear in the parish registers and who they were connected with - you tend to find that before 1700 or so landowning or farming families rarely move very far, so the same names will crop up again and again in a certain area.

As their children were baptised in a Church I doubt if they were non Conformist even though it seems some of the family were. It was not uncommon, William of Plas Noble married into a Non Com family . It`s great to have lb on board, I have none of the `indepth` sources .

I`ve been looking at some more old wills for people in Bersham , and found a gem. Jones, Rees, Bersham, Wrexham, Denbigh, Yeoman. Will 1693 hdl.handle.net/10107/807277I am not very good at reading old wills. He names his Daughter Martha , wife of John Willco-ck on page 1. Wife Jane is left the property `lately purchased from Nathaniel Thomas of Sutton and Jane his wife.` It seems that Ann and Martha are to inherit the property after the death of his wife. Daughter Ann the wife of William Fisher. Daughter Elizabeth wife of John Bruingwyn? - £10 Brother Robert Jones - £3 Sister Margaret Jones - £3 God son? John Griffiths - £5 Manservant John ap John - £8 Maid servant Anne Jones - £5 He wants to be buried in Wrexham Churchyard Item in inventory - Muck in the dung hill .10s 0d To leave his servants such a large amount suggests he was a wealthy and generous person. Page 9 Latin Johannan Willco-ck . signed . John is mentioned frequently on this page. I guess this would make Martha and John to have been born around 1670 Another mention is here. Jacob Littlemore clockmaker Bersham Gent. Bond 1745 hdl.handle.net/10107/525589Wife Mary is a dissenter . Robert Willco-ck / Willcox a victualler of Wrexham is a witness. Where there`s muck there`s money ;D www.ejsd.org/public/journal_article/1 For example, dung was a valuable commodity in pre-industrial society and it was not unusual for a dung-heap in 17th century England to be part of a bequest, its value listed in shillings and pencewww.measuringworth.com/calculators/ppoweruk/ In 2009, £0 10s 0d from 1693 is worth £56.00 using the retail price index £782.00 using average earnings

I`ve just heard from Jill Rose, she is udpating her site with some more names. I agree with her about Woodco-ck, these first names appear in the Willco-ck familes.
Jills message to me is below
53: "Baps/Bur 1800-1812 does not have any WILCO-CK entries at all, but there are some WOODCO-CK ones which I looked at with the faint suspicion that they may have been mistranscribed. The names mentioned are Ann(e), Ellinor, Frances, Francies, John and Joseph (schoolmaster). You may have noticed that I've spread the net for WILCO-CKs on the website and will continue doing so over the next few days."

Hope it`s all coming together so far. Just to let you know that I've now done as much as I can with the above names. Unfortunately I don't at the moment have access to the early Wrexham transcriptions ie Vols 1-6 covering the period 1618-1729. Jill

I still have quite a lot to work on from the information you have given me. I feel very lucky to have found this forum and am very grateful for the help you have given me.

Here are a few more. There are not many marriages recorded, but that far back it wasn`t a legal requirement to be married in a Church. It does look as if there were 2 Johns around at about the same time, one a glover in Wrexham, the other a mason in Bersham. Perhaps if you have worked your tree out you can post it so we can see where they all fit in. This where the Plas Noble link has been so valuable as it is very definite connection between the generations.

Re- www.cefnpennar.com/1873index.htmThere is one entry there that must relevant: Willc-ck John and the area of land just over 26 acres. This ties up with posting #50 about the tithe maps. From John's (1762-1850) will this would probably be John, eldest son of Thomas, his brother. Thomas was to inherit but he died first so his eldest son was next in line. From Jill's W list 138 Wrexham: 8 Jun 1794 bap/o John (b 4 Feb) s/o Thomas (flaxdresser) & Elizabeth, Wrexham Regis Then Posting #25 John Willco-ck Plas Noble died February 14 1875 aged 80. So he was alive in 1873. There is a problem with Posting #25 1813 Apr 8 John Willco-ck s/o Thomas farmer and Elizabeth. Sontley. From Jill's W list 266 Marchwiel: 8 Apr 1813 bap/o William s/o Thomas (farmer) & Elizabeth, Sontley I think this is correct as it agrees with other information about William from other sources.

(1) John Willc-ck (will 1718 - glover?) married to Margaret (Parry) (2) Bapt 1714 July 9 (b 29) John Willc-ck (will 1781) s/o John, glover WA Marries Frances WILLCOX 118 Mold: 23 Jun 1736 mar/o John WILLCOX & Frances COLLINS, both of Wrexham ? 29 Jun 1798 bur/o Frances, aged 84, Wrexham Regis (so born about 1714)
(3 or 1 on post #75) 304 Wrexham: 20 Sep 1738 bap/o John (b 14) s/o John
John Willc-ck sp: Ellinor Rogers (m.23 Oct 1762)
Perhaps conjecture really but I think it holds together reasonably well, sources from annedw, the will transcripts and Jill's list

From reply 60 Wilco-cke, Roger ap Jenkin ap, Lleweni, Henllan, Denbigh, Gent : bond, 1669. In the will of John 1850 he mentions Ty Mawr in Llanrhaeadr y Crimmerch ( Nghinmerch ) I think I have found this place in Clicedig, it`s between Prion and Llanraeadr. There are many more Willco-cks in Mold and Hawarden area than Wrexham, I wonder if the early family originated from that area. Marriage 1716 May 26 Robert Willco-ck (Limner) stranger and Margaret Michaell. I wonder if Robert was from Mold. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coincidence ? No Willco-cks names mentioned, but he was a nonconformist as he leaves money to the poor of the Meeting House. Collins, Thomas, Wrexham, Denbigh, Glover Thomas Collins : will, 1740. hdl.handle.net/10107/344870ADDITION Palmers History of Nonconformity , Strong words. In the latter part of his life (July 29, 1742), so as to assure the enjoyment of them to his successors, Mr. Kenrick (John) conveyed these lands to trustees, namely, to John Travers, Esq., of Trefalun,*' William Travers, gentleman, of Lincoln's Inn," John Wright, tanner, of Wrexham, and Thomas Collins, glover, of Wrexham,' who covenanted to pay the rents and profits of the said parcels of land to whomsoever should be elected after the death of Mr. Kenrick to succeed him as minister, "provided that in case the said congregation of Protestant Dissenters should be dissolved, or should be by law restrained from having such minister, teacher, or preacher as they shall elect, or should for the space of twelve months, in case of the death or removal of any minister officiating there, neglect or omit to elect or appoint some other person to officiate as pastor, minister, or teacher of the said congregation, or in case such person, so elected or appointed, should after such election, for the space of six months, neglect or refuse to officiate as pastor . . . then, and in any of the said cases, the said deed and every cause, matter and thing therein contained should cease, determine, and be utterly void."

From #72 Burial 1718 Sept 19 John Willco-ck Glover WR
So it really does seem that this is the writer of the 1718 will.
Also Bapt 1716 Aug 17 b 9 Phillip Willco-ck s/o John , glover WR Burial 1717 Apr 20 Phillip Willco-ck s/o John, Glover, WA.
I wonder if John was in fact quite a young man when he died some kind of flu epidemic or the like.
In which case
Bapt 1684 Oct 4 John Willco-ck s/o Roger WA.
could be him and brings a connection to a Roger Willc-ck

Re Thomas Collins - it could be coincidence but I would prefer to think that as some of the Willc-ck family were nonconformist and also that he was a glover, it helps to confirm
WILLCOX 118 Mold: 23 Jun 1736 mar/o John WILLCOX & Frances COLLINS, both of Wrexham
I think I can put another generation on the top of my tree. Some of the events may not be quite right but I think there are enough strong links, particularly with the land mentioned, to link back to John (1763-1850).
Marriage 1678 Aug 27 Roger Wilco-cke and Elizabeth Phillipps ? Burial 1689 Mar 16. Roger Willco-ck Baillife. W ? Burial 1702 Nov 11 Elizabeth Willco-cke Abbott Street
Bapt 1680 Nov 13 Sara Willco-ck d/o Roger Bapt 1679 July 17 Elinor Willco-cke d/o Roger, Wrexham. Bapt 1684 Oct 4 John Willco-ck s/o Roger WA. John Willc-ck (will 1718 - glover) married to Margaret (Parry)
Burial 1718 Sept 19 John Willco-ck Glover WR (would only be abt 34 in 1718 if born abt 1684) John's will (1718) now ties the two generations together and also the land mentioned ties it to the later generations. He leaves money to his sisters Sara and Elinor and also mentions two other sisters Elizabeth and Canora ? They both have the surname Phillips. This suggests that Roger's wife was a widow when they married.

This may be of interest to others following the Parry Family line Genealogical abstracts of Parry wills, proved in the Prerogative court of Canterbury down to 1810 with the administrations for the same period www.archive.org/details/genealogicalabst00parrThere are a few place names that have already cropped up e.g. Llanrhaeadr and also a Tymawr but not (I don't think) in the right place. I will have to study it further and try to tie places and people together. I will have to be careful not to get too interested and start on a new line

The bonds mentioned in #87 will perhaps link to #73. Although the dates seem rather far apart to be the same person. Thanks for the early Willc-ck information. The Parry's, well does sum it up. At the moment I have reached my 7GG parents and I was trying to work out how many 7GG Parents I would have. If I worked it out correctly its 512 I think I will just stick to one line at the moment.

If you look at these , they are both concerning the same Margaret. I had to ask for help on this one and have been given this explanation. Although the administrator remains Elizabeth Hughes the other bondsman/men have changed. Maybe sister Margaret's affairs were complex or there was some sort of dispute and the original bondsmen didn't want the hassle. Maybe one or more of them died before the estate was fully wound upWilcox, Margaret, Wrexham, Denbigh, Widow ... Michael Bond 1759 hdl.handle.net/10107/814558I Elizabeth Hughes of Wrexham spinster .
