Hi all, I'm new to this site and relatively new to ancestry detective work.
I've been researching my family tree, and in particular the line of my grandad, David James Price, born Cefn late 1915. His family moved to the Nottinghamshire area and the coalfields there around 1926/7, and he died in a mining accident in 1968, a few months before my 2nd birthday. In July I'm taking my mum to Wrexham so she (and I) can see the villages where our family came from and lived for it appears a good few generations.
My tree is on ancestry, but it's a work in progress: www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/tree/106696992/family?cfpid=380060163943
i have lots of questions and lines of enquiry, and wonder if anyone can help with a couple?
We were always told that grandad was one of 19 children (22 was bandied about too), but they didn't all survive. I have found birth records of all the living siblings that we know of, but not any more. Is it likely that they weren't recorded, even in the early 1900s, or could they be recorded in a church or parish register?
Finally, my interest was seriously stirred when I reviewed the 1911 census for my great grandparents, Robert Price and Mary Ann Roberts. There are 5 children listed, and it clearly indicates that all 5 are living and none have died...however, I have found death records for the 3 youngest, who all died in 1910. From an empathetic viewpoint, that's an emotional hit to take as a young mother in challenging times, but I wonder if there was any other reason to lie on the census, such as poor payments for the children? I even wonder if the latter is the case, if the family were ever found out?
Any advice to steer me in the right direction for more information greatly appreciated.
