In Teglas Autobiography he recalls the story about David Morgan Rogers about the time he returned to Coedpoeth just before the second world war started. Tegla took over from T.O. Jones(Tryfan) who told him about a drinking club in Coedpoeth who drank themselves silly every Sunday in the front room of one of the members' houses. The chapels got together to fight it and held a prayer meeting every Sunday afternoon in front of the house concerned. The drinkers used to jeer and call them by their family nicknames etc. But eventually after quite a few weeks some of the drinkers changed sides and actually joined their wives in the Prayer Meeting which led to them being called all sorts of names by the drinkers. About this time David M Rogers was a prolific drinker and getting into all sorts of trouble, one night he was thrown out of a Coedpoeth Pub on his head and he crawled home as he was unable to stand. When T.O.Jones heard this he went to his house and after gaining entry by pushing past David he locked the door to stop David leaving. To cut a long story short they both finished up on their knees praying together and David was a changed man. He actually led a parade through Coedpoeth the following Saturday urging people to repent etc and attend a Chapel. He was illiterate but put in charge of the youngest children in Rehoboth so he had to learn his alphabet to join in--Suffice it to say he never looked back and eventually became a Deacon and a good one at that. Soon after Tegla took over Rehoboth he had the unpleasant task of accompanying someone to tell David his son had been killed in an air accident in Bridlington. He had been sent there after surviving Dunkirk. His sons name was Percy and he was six foot four. One night at the Seiat he got up to say a word "I have been to the cemetery today to see Percy's grave, what's left of him, but the time will come when we will meet again" I have all the relevant burials and it appears he was married twice--that is why I tried to access the Minera Parish Records. David also told Tegla he lost two other sons in the war but I cannot confirm this. I also have bapt of several of his chidren which I will put in a later post if interested. Tom
