Seeing all the other photos reminded me of this one. I am reasonably confident that there is at least one family memer in the picture but which one and does anyone know anything about the rest and when it was taken? Peter Attachments:

Hi Sharon
I am not very good at dating old pics but would have thought it a touch earlier looking at collars. I would welcome any input.
Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter, Looking at the collars of the footballer's shirts on both photo's they seem to look very similar, fastened by laces. On my photo (a larger copy in my possession) you can see the date on the board in front of my great grandfather Robert Smallwood. Unfortunately, I couldn't download the larger picture onto this website, otherwise you may have seen a bit more detail. I wonder whether both teams competed with each other at one time! Sharon

Hi Peter, I think you are right and your photo of the Broughton team is probably earlier. What occurred to me about it was a lack of younger men in the team Could this indicate it was taken during WW1 do you think?

Hi Eluned & Sharon
I thought the players were older as well and WW1 may help explain that although not necessarily making it taken then as obviously so many young men lost their lives and I dare say a few teams looked older! I have rescanned the photo which was not great to start with and tried the 'sharpening' tools and looked at the original under a good light with a magnifying glass to no avail. I have presumed a family interest as it came with some other older photos when my Mum died but it is my father's side who were from the area and I know they all played football and later my Dad was Secretary of Ruthin FC for many years. The man on the right has a passing resemblance to my Taid but it is only a guess as I do not have many other photos to compare. He was born in 1879 and overweight with a similar hairstyle but it is a guess. If it is I would reckon the early 1920s.
Peter
