Would details of marriages be noted in this ? From what years does it run ? I have a couple of familes closely linked with Bethesda Bwlchgwyn, some baptised and some buried there. Did they hold marriages there ? They are entered as Civil marriages on BMD so because of my current economic climate I`m looking for an alternative to check them out. ;D ;D ;D

Hi The Cylchgrawn Welsh Wesleyan magazines are available from 1888+ and list some births/baptisms, marriages and burials/deaths within the circuit. The earliest ones are more brief in the description they give of an event but if the marriage was listed it would state the wedding venue. I don't know if Bethesda was registered for marriages, perhaps some one else can help with this If marriages didn't take place there they did at Rehoboth so its still worth a look.

Hi, Bethesda was registered for marriages and I have made a database of the marr. in the Cylchgrawn, and there are over 900 in total but only abt 30 in Bethesda abt 1925--1940's It does name the chapels where the marriage took place and often mentions the parents. There are about 10 marriages which does not give the name of the chapel, only the Minister so perhaps members could work it out for themselves at that time.Hope this helps-Tom

1891 Sept qtr Civil marriage Wrexham ? Mary Jane Owens / William Edwards / Watkin Edwards/ Annie Valentine
I`m trying to solve this one - who is Mary Jane.
1911. Tany Graig Quarry Cottages. Bwlchgwyn. All children Born Bwlch. Married 19 years William Edwards. 42. Coalmine timberman. B, Coedpoeth. Mary G (J) Edwards. 39.. b, Bwlchgwyn. W.(illiam) James Edwards. 17. Coalmine Filler. H.(ugh) Owen Edwards. 16. Colemine Hewer. Emlyn Edwards. 13. Moses Edwards. 11. Eliza Jane. 9. Lilian. 6.
I have a `gut` feeling this is her. Both families have links to Bethesda, first son is named after both fathers - William James, another son - Hugh Owen.
1891 RG12; Piece: 4615; Folio 111; Page 20 Bwlchgwyn. All born Bwlchgwyn James Owens 49 coal miner Eliza Owens 51 Robert Owens 24 coal miner Hugh Owens 22 coalminer Mary Jane Owens 20 b Bryngwyn Brymbo James Owens 18 coalminer Daniel Owens 15 coalminer Alexander Owens 11 scholar Alfred Owens 7

Hi Annette, The 2 Edwards sisters you left off the 1911 Census were Gwladys age 4 & Florence May age 1--Gwladys and her brother Moses never married and lived together all there life in Holly Cottage Bwlchgwyn. Florence May married a Price Hughes (Remember that example you quoted for Heather as Grave No 1 on Tom Mercers List--Yes He is the one). William James Edwards aged 32 Marr. Annie Williams aged 33 in Bwlchgwyn Church 5 9 1925 (I have a copy-saving you a fortune ;D ) He used to breed bulldogs and was given the obvious nickname locally as Edwards The Bulldogs--Eliza Jane & Lilian married 2 brothers R Meirion Morris ( apparently a well known local singer) who kept the Post Office in Rhos and Lilian married Ifor Morris and lived in Llys Aled in Bwlchgwyn.-I am sure you will check all these against Bmd etc Tom

I have a newspaper article I found by chance about Bill Edwards, remembering his days as a bulldog breeder. He was even famous in America and there is a picture of Bill holding an America magazine with one of his dogs " the magnificent Maelor Solarium" on the front page. I didn`t make a note of the date of the paper, but it says that it was Bill`s 80th birthday Attachments:
