I am looking for information about an ancestor, Thomas Henry Evans, whom I know to have lived at the Vicarage in Minera between 1898 - 1900. From there he went to Liverpool, married Sarah Adam and had at least two children.' Sarah Hilda and John Could his father have been the vicar? Any information would be welcome.
Thank you

I have found Thomas Henry at the age of 9 on the 1881 Census of Llanwddyn, Montgomeryshire. His father was also Thomas Henry Evans, married to Elizabeth, and he was the Vicar of Llanwddyn. At the times of the 1891 and 1901 Census his father was at the Vicarage, Minera although the younger Thomas is not mentioned as being at home. In 1901 Thomas is now married to Sarah, and living with her father who was a Medical Practitioner in Liverpool. Regards - Margaret.
The history of this family should be very interesting as Llanwddyn, along with its Parish Church, was submerged for the construction of Lake Vyrnwy. Work commenced in 1881 and was completed in 1889. Alternate housing was constructed a couple of miles away by Liverpool Corporation. Before the elder Thomas Henry Evans arrived in Minera they had three children, born at LLandegla and then a further ten born at Llanwddyn. Your Thomas Henry was the fourth child born, one of his sisters, Ada Celia, was described as an Elementary School Teacher when she was resident at Minera in 1901. A later son, Wddyn, born 1881 just after the construction work had begun, was a Banker's Clerk in 1901.

Hi maureen and welcome to minerancestry There is a booklet entitled "The Policeman's Story" about Llanwddyn and the construction of Lake Vyrnwy. The information is taken from a book written by David Jones and now in the archives at Llandrindod Wells.
