My grandmother Edith May Davies (or Davis?) lived in Victoria Terrace Minera. Her mother was widowed and remarried a Sheldon.
My grandmother married Albert Foulkes (collier) of Pentre Broughton.
The family followed the coal to South Yorkshire where my mother was born.
Does anyone remember Victoria Terrace before if was demolished (only the pub remained when I visited with a friend some years ago - sadly the first time I had ever been to North Wales)?
My grandmother used to say she lived at 'Twenty Houses' though I can't see that many in the photos I've discovered.
Would love to hear from anyone who remembers my grandmothers or my grandfathers families.
Thanks for any info.

Thanks for the message. These pictures are the first I have been able to find of the terrace - very much changed. I am hoping to make another visit to Wales soon to delve further into my family history.
Further info is that my grandmother and grandfather were married in St Tufils/Tuffyls in 1924. My great grandmother married George Sheldon (2nd marriage) in 1906 and went on to have further children so there were full and half brothers and sisters Davies/Sheldon in the family.

Thanks elunid and tominera. Great info ; has fired me up for a visit to Wales.
Edith May is definitely my Nan.
Most of my Nan and Grandad's families moved to Rossington, just outside Doncaster. Believe they must have gone late 20s or even 1930 when my Nan would have been pregnant with my Mum. They stayed until my Mum was in her teens when my Grandad went down to London on bomb damage. By then he was invalided out of the mines with black lung. Nan loved London although she still hankered after Wales and she brought my Mum and my Uncle back to visit family every year when they were young.
Winifred my great grandma went with them to Yorkshire. Believe Uncle Ike (Davies or Sheldon?) stayed behind in Coedpoeth and also a sister of my Nan's who was badly burned in a fire as a child. My grandad's brother and a sister also went to Yorkshire but I am sure there were other/s left behind in Pentre Broughton they visited.
My great Aunty Winnie lived in Rossington for years, marrying twice, and died some years ago in her 90s in Derbyshire where both her daughters now live.
My Nan said her father was in the Welch Fusiliers but I've never been able to confirm that. I think you have hit the nail on the head with the name Tom. It does sound familiar - wished I'd listened more!
Thanks once again for this wonderful detailed info.

Hi, I think your great grandmother was possibly Winifred Williams who married Robert Thomas Davies June Q 1896-Wrexham My reason for believing this being a Robert Thomas Davies aged 30 yrs died 15 3 1905 and was buried in Coedpoeth Cemetery 18 3 1905(Ideal date as she remarried in 1906) Also in this plot No 329 is an Elizabeth Williams aged 51 yrs buried 10 2 1896 who I would hazard a guess as being Winifred's mother. Should you ever find this useful there are also some more burials in this plot which may or not be connected. All this would need confirming as you go along and I am sure more experienced people on this sight will help you as to how and when. Good Luck Tom

Purchasing Edith May's birth certificate will confirm her father's name and occupation and mother's maiden name.

Thank you both so much for your help. This will certainly prompt my mother's memory as she had forgotten some of my Nan's brothers and sisters; there were a few! I've found out from my Mum that Nan's sister who was burnt was called Aunty Cissy and I did have another great Aunty Nancy (Sheldon). Winifred must have been a very busy lady.
I will be looking into Robert Thomas to find out if he was a military man.
My Grandad also only went by his second second name as he was actually William Alber.
Once again thanks so much, this has helped immensley.
