I am new to this website. This is the first post that I have made. I am not sure if it is my fault or that the link to the local parish records is broken. I have attempted to access the records twice and failed. Can anyone help

Thanks for the information about the local records link. My Grandmother, Ann Eleanor Hughes was born in Minera in 1893. according to the 1901 census for Wales my Grandmother was 8 yrs old and had two brothers and a sister. Her mother Ellen, maiden name Roberts is recorded as a widow. Without the Christian name of the father it is difficult to go further back. I was hoping that local records may have helped, but alas no. Barry

Perhaps with the full census info something may `click` with someone else. It looks as if her husband had died after 1897 by the age of Edward. If you get the marriage certificate of Ann E , it should give the name of her father. Do you have marriage details. Spouse name, date and place.

I knew the names rang a bell , so it seems like Anne Roberts the mother could have been maried twice. Found on Ancestry Public Members Tree. I have had a quick look through all of the information that has been given. Most of it looks interesting. I intend to print it out so that I can make notes and take it all in. I know that my Grandmothers family moved to the Ferryhill area but I had no dates. I also recognise a lot of the names as my Granmomothers Step brothers and sisters. Thanks a lot for all your help, time and effort. Barry

Margaret, the second wife of Simon Hughes, was Margaret Roberts born at Yspytty Ifan and a sister to William Roberts my great grandfather who married Harriet Jones. You can find the thread about them. Jane Rogers was the daughter of another Roberts sister. She appears as Jennie in the 1901 census below. She married Robert Owen. This is what I found out about them in August this year Eleanor Hughes and baby Eleanor died soon after 1881 census-Jun quarter Sephora was born in Sep q 1883 and Simon and Margaret Roberts married in Dec q 1883 Of course the birth and the marriage might have gone in the reverse order. It just depends how quickly the details were sent on by ministers or registrars.
In 1901 census in Beresford st Moss Side Manchester Robert T Owen 27 plasterer Jennie 27 Margaret 13 days Sephorah Hughes 16 cousin b Minera In 1911 they are in 38 Derby st Moss side and also Sephorah Hughes 26 cousin milliner b Minera and some interesting boarders and a servant girl Edith Emily Jones 15 b Broughton Denbighshire In Dec q 1916 Sephorah marries Walter H Pritchard at Chorlton In Mar q 1922 Death of Sephorah Pritchard at Chorlton aged 37 There are no children registered for Pritchard /Hughes from 1916 but 2 for Pritchard /Roberts -in Chorlton--John b Dec q 1918 and Audrey Dec q 1920--Chorlton.They might just be a coincidence. I think some of my unknown pictures in the album might be the Owen family in about 1911. Might also be of the Hughes family. My grandmother Mary jane nee Roberts born Minera 1875-daughter of William, lived in Flixton Manchester from 1898 and seemed to keep in touch with many of her family.
It gets more complicated!!

Hello. A lot of the information that has been submitted looks very interesting. I will again print it and sit and sort through it. Annedw. You ask the question, did Thomas marry Daniel's widow. I am not sure, yet, if a marriage took place, but they had a family together. I recognise names that when I was a youngster I called aunty or uncle. Barry

The term Captain is similer to a superviser/ manager , it was used mainly by the leadminers who came from Cornwall to work in the district. They brought their skills from the Cornish mines.
WERN burials
This looks like Ellen / Eleanor and the little girl, buried in Wern. How sad, they were buried together on the same day, looking at the dates it seems Eleanor died very soon after giving birth to her daughter.

Hi, I have just noticed that there are headstones in Wern which will give valuable information if they can be located. They are on Tom Mercers list 257, 259 and 260 and all have a Simon Hughes with family on them. Quite a search really -but would be nice to know whats on them. Good Luck Tom

LH side of graveyard.
Tom, 259 seems a good one, Elizabeth , Simon, Eleanor and Elinor all are names that match. Possiby for Eleanor and he little girl , wife and daughter of Simon Hughes.
290 has Simon Hughes and Margaret, also seems to be a match.
257 has Simon,Issac and Ann ,
Definately worth looking into, perhaps Tom Mercer will give more details to anyone interested. Remember even though names are on the headstones and are transcribed , it doesn`t always mean they are buried there.
