Hi
I was wondering if a look up could be done on 1841 cencus for Charles & Eleanor Edwards. On the 1851 cencus they are living at Sontley Lodge Farm or Lodge Farm.
Charles born abt 1786 Overton area Ellenor born abt 1790 Llandrillo. They would of have a few children living with them also mostly born marchwiel/sontley.
Worth a try as I have come to a standstill on this with 1841 cencus missing.
Thank you

Hi and welcome lyndiecheshire The 1841 census that is available in booklet form from the Clwyd FHS, only covers the town of Wrexham itself and not the surrounding villages I'm afraid. Is there any other information we can help with? If you are trying to knock down a brick wall, people on the forum may have helpful suggestions on where to look next. eluned

thanks eluned
I shall see where else I am stuck, I didn't realise it was a booklet for Wrexham itself.

1851 HO107; Piece: 2502; Folio: 579; Page: 18 Sontley Lodge farm Charles Edwards 66 b Overton Ellenor Edwards 58 b Llandrillo George Edwards 34 b Bryn Denbighshire Elizabeth Edwards 30 b Bryn "" Charles Edwards 28 b Sontley Susanna Edwards 25 b " Ellenor Edwards 23 b " Are you looking for more children , or just where they were living. It seems they had been in Sontley for at least 28 years. You should find the baptisms in St Marcell`s Marchwiel, or possibly St Giles Wrexham. 1861 has George born Wrexham and Elizabeth b Gresford I can`t really make out the name of the place in 1851.

Hi
I have the 1851/61 cencus' which i found a couple years back.
I think the place could be Bryn Goleu which it what another forum told me?!?
I wanted to know where Charles and Elenor got married but someone searched Marchwiel and Overton records and could not locate it in either of those records, unsure of options on where they could have married.
I went to St Marcella's church yesterday to find a grave for a Charles Edwards, d.o.d 1856 aged 70, when I arrived I found an Elizabeth Edwards already buried in it before Charles, her d.o.d was 1822 aged 87...unsure of who Elizabeth was, it wasn't his wife!?!
Could be wrong grave but on it was wrote 'late of Sontley' which is where he lived.....also sorry to waffle I found on Ancestry a baptism of a Charles Edwards 1786, father Ellis Edwards, mother Susannah Edwards at Hanmer church. This could be Charles as he called a son Ellis and a daugher Susannah which was popular in those days but I'm not certain.
It becomes frustrating when u get so far and then get stuck lol
Thanks :-)

St Marcella`s registers will probably have more details on the deaths, I remember looking for baptisms and they even gave the name of the `sponsors` (godparents). The burials and baptisms have been transcribed up to 1837, after that they are on microfiche, but if you live locally then you probably already know that. There is also a MI`s book for St Marcella`s. I would transcribe the placename as Bryngolley, but as you know entries are often put down as they sound. homepage.ntlworld.com/geogdata/ngw/fulllist.htmBryn Golau ST0088 Glamorgan Bryn Goleu SJ1470 Flintshire 1861 has George b Wrexham and Elizabeth b Gresford , which I wouldn`t say is either of these. Clwyd Family history centre in Cefn has the Hayes marriage index for Wales. It has names of couples and their parents only, indexed in parishes and years. It doesn`t give the months, but if you find a likely result you can then look in up. Do you live locally ? Attachments:

Hi
Thanks for helping, I live in Warrington which is 45 mins/hour away. Where would the St Marcella's church records be at for baptisms, marriages and deaths? Can you just turn up to view them or make appointments as this is something I havent done.
I had found Sarah buried at Hanmer but believe that the Church records were destroyed in a fire which is sad.
Thanks again Lynda

Hi Genuki is excellent for giving details and locations of Parish Registers. www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/DEN/Marchwiel/They can also be viewed at the A.N Palmer centre in Wrexham which after a period of closure for renovation work, reopens 14 Feb. www.wrexham.gov.uk/english/heritage/archives/index.htmIt's always best to contact any archive dept before a visit to find out if you need to book a reader etc. I don't know about Hawarden (Flintshire Record Office) but you will need to book for both Denbishire R.O and Wrexham Archives. Good luck

I don`t know if this is the same Charles Edwards. Marraiges North Wales Chronicle Thursday Nov 27 1851 On 20th inst at Parish Church Stockport John Edwards tea dealer Liverpool third son of Mr Charles Edwards, Sontley Wrexham to Frances Amelia eldest daughter of John Foster esq of Manchester.
This one seem to be . North Wales Chronicle Saturday Dec 10 1853 1st inst at Marchwiel, Mr Alfred Iron to Susannah, fourth daughter of Charles Edwards of Sontley near Wrexham.
If Susannah is the 4th, then there must be another 3 born before her, we know about Elizabeth from 1851. Have I got that right ??

Hi
Yes I have John and Frances marriage cert which states Charles Edwards (father) is a farmer. Where have you located the North Wales Chronicle item?
Also found Susannah married to Alfred on Ancestry.co.uk but no paper record of that marriage.
John Edwards married again to Emily F Shepherd in Liverpool after Frances.
I have got George born 1816 Ann 1819 Elizabeth 1821 Charles 1823 John 1824 Ellenor 1828 Ellis William 1829 Ellen 1832 Susannah 1832 ... not sure why ellen and susannah both 1832 unless they were twins but cannot locate info on Ellen
Thanks for looking :-)

would you know how you locate a grave for both of the Eleanor's? who would hold that information, would it be the church they were buried at or would record offices know
Also found some scandal on Ellis W Edwards son of Charles and Eleanor...it is great fun looking through the paper articles :-)

Hi
The only birth years i have for children are what i have found off the cencus' records on Ancestry.
I don't think Eleanor Edwards, Charles Wife died in 1864 as she is alive on the 1871 cencus living at Sontley Farm but after 1871 i cannot locate her so I think she has passed after 1871.
Maybe one of them is daughter Eleanor though...
Also, not sure who Ellen Edwards is she is down as daughter on 1871 cencus but again i can't locate her
Thanks for all your help :-)
