Can anyone respond with info to this email from Gareth Davies...
I was told there was a large american camp at Plas Power, but no one seems to know much about it. Thank you Gareth Davies.

I remember the Yanks at Plas Power during the war--It was roughly behind where the Gypsy Camp is now situated and always referred to as Bottom Lodge. It was quite a large camp and must have held quite a few Soldiers. I also remember them marching through Minera singing at the top of their voices on their way to Minera mountain to train. As youngsters we would run down Minera Hall Rd towards Five Crosses and then walk/trot beside them until they gave us Chewing Gum, sweets, chocolate etc in small quantities and very occasionally a brass badge. They did march in a very casual manner to a rhythymic beat of their own and as it was at least 5 or 6 miles it must have helped. I also remember them courting several local girls

The book Bradley Memories also mentions that `Yanks` were stationed at Gwersyllt Club and the Tudors Billiard Hall in Gwersyllt. Many also stayed in people houses, and they would march up from Bradley to the Gwersyllt Club for their breakfast. One was named Joe La Plante Gwersyllt ( Workingmens) Club is still open , but the billiard hall is long gone. It was on the LH side of the bottom of Wheatsheaf Lane off the Mold Road.
