I came across this in the WXM Advertiser, I wonder who the happy couple were. ;D May 30, 1884 Jumping over the besom. After publishing the banns of marriage betwixt a gentleman of some 20 years of age and a young lady of about 17 the usual number of times , the ceremony was appointed to take place at the Bwlychgwyn church early on Monday morning, and the minister , clerk and bride &etc were all ready and willing with the exception of the bridegroom. That important individual remained in bed and nothing would induce him to arise and take part in the ceremony.. It afterward appeared that the betrothed couple went to Wrexham on the previous Saturday and the bridegroom had unfortunately spent all his ready money and could not raise sufficient to pay the usual fees, and so was ashamed of showing himself. The minister with his usual kindness would, nevertheless, have married the parties but the bridegroom would not get up and the wedding was postponed. Much talk and laughter has been caused by the event, but the couple apperar quite comfortable and will be joined together in wedlock before a fortnight has passed, and in anticipation of that happy event they are living in a cottage on the borders of Flintshire having previously gone through the ancient ceremony of jumping over the besom.

I tried to find the marriage in the PRs, but there is no entry that could be them. I wonder what happened, did the bride to be change her mind, did they just not bother, could they have married at another church, there is no records of banns , so I guess we`ll never find out.
