I had this sent to me on another board, can anyone help ?
"I am the archivist of the West Highland White Terrier Club of England . I am researching Mrs. Evelyn Spottiswoode the daughter of Richard Henry Venables Kyrke. I saw the photo of Nant y Ffrith . I know that she lived there until around 1930 before she moved to Lambourne. Presumably she inherited the house from her father but it is not mentioned in his probate - he seems to have left the princely sum of £344 to Henry and Gerald Venables Kyrke who I think are nephews. Quite how she then left almost a quarter of a million pounds when she died in 1948 is a mystery. She bred her dogs using the name GWERN and I came across a reference to Gwern Hall - do you know anything about Gwern? Who lived there etc?

No it wont because the naughty word thing has changed it , try entering " cross and co ckade forum" in the search , if you don`t get a hit , then get rid of the space. I got it right away. When you get to the forum , enter Spottiswoode in the box. In 1906 married Evelyn Anne Venables, only child of Richard Henry Venables Kyrke, of Natyffrith, Flintshire,(sic) and Anne Elizabeth, daughter of Peter Walker of Auchenflower. Married dissolved in 1915. In 1916 married Hylda Majorie, youngest daughter of Colonel Andrew Venables Kyrke, of Staplegrove, Somerset

Hi, Cliff Davies wrote the following in his booklet "Lost Names and Places". Gwern Hall was part of the Nant y Ffrith Estate and the Spottiswood family who were descendants of the Kyrke family had it built in the 1870,s-----------In 1920 when Mr Kyrke sold the hall (NYF) and left the district for good, a painting of "The Monks Kitchen" made £420 and a pair of fireside chairs made £100. The estate passed into the hands of Mr Kyrkes daughter Mrs Spottiswood who lived in Gwern Hall. She sold the estate to The Bwlchgwyn Roadstone Company and the hall was demolished in 1950 by the owners---Tom

I never thought I would find out who Mrs. Spottiswood was ! Notes written by my mother, Elizabeth Ellen Howard (nee Richards.) (b 1906-1996 ) as follows.... "My Uncle Evan (Thomas) Richards (b 1870) was a groomsman for a Mrs. Spottiswood who lived in a Hall. Aunty Lizzie (cook) used to send their daughter Polly's cast offs for me - we were very grateful." Now I know which Hall she meant ! Thank you
