Hi, I am new to this site.
I have issued a similar message on some Facebook pages, but am hoping to gain more detail here.
I am trying to trace a number of branches of my family tree, if someone may have some old pictures of the streets in the towns where my ancestors lived, or recognise some of the family names I would be very pleased to hear from you.
The Cuffin branch of my family lived in the Ruabon area between the 1800s and 1900s – Ezekiel Cuffin ran the Black Lion Pub, and his son Thomas Cuffin ran the Foresters Arms. The Belton branch of my family was living in Bwlchgwyn in the early 1800s.
Finally, the Clayton branch of my family lived at Plas-Gwyn Mount in the Minera area in the mid 1800s. I am most interested to find out about the Claytons.
My great grand-father was Edward Clayton, born 1867 in Minera. In 1871 he was living at Plas Gwyn Mount, age 4 with his Father Edward Clayton (age 33 Occupation Miner) and mother Dinah (nee Belton age 28, born in Brymbo).
My great grand-father Edward moved to Ashton in Makerfield before the age of 22 as he married Sarah (nee Williams) there in 1889. They had a daughter Jane Clayton (born 1889). In 1904 Sarah Clayton died due to Pernicious Anaemia. I can find no trace of their daughter Jane Clayton either in the Wrexham or Ashton areas beyond that date.
My great grand-father Edward re-married in 1906, to Elizabeth (nee Evans) and my Nana was born in 1908 – Mary Elizabeth Clayton. Edward’s second wife Elizabeth also died, in 1910 from Acute Pneumonia. My Nana was sent back to live in North Wales with her maternal grand-parents and never saw her Father again. Edward Clayton died in 1920, age 54, from Prostate Cancer.
If anyone has any information at all about the Clayton family living in the Minera area in the 1800s, I would be very grateful. It has been suggested that there may be a link to the Clayton Pub, or to the mine owner Thomas Clayton, of Brynmally Hall, but I have no idea!!
Any information greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
