I am hoping someone may be able to help me discover my Father’s family who were centred round Esclusham. Sadly I didn’t ask the questions when I could and now, well in my 70’s I am the one being asked the questions and am unable to supply the answers. I live in France and sadly I am unable to come and do my own investigating at the moment. I have a vague outline of when but I cannot fathom out the ‘where’s, I would like to know if the place names add up if you can understand me! Also so many John Evans, Thomas Evans, John Jones etc somewhat defeats me.
I will briefly out line what I do know, my Father was born in Liverpool in 1898 and his father, John Evans was also born in Liverpool however his father helpfully, Thomas Evans, was born in Denbighshire and I believe somewhere roughly in the area between Llanynys, Bachymbyd and Esclusham, I have no names for his parents. It is Great-grandfather Thomas I am anxious to trace. My father often talked about often staying with his cousins at Ffronhuelog, he broke his back falling from a motorbike owned by them, this would have been about 1912 I imagine. I don’t know the names of the cousins.
For certain I know a cousin, (Eleanor) Nellie Jones was born at Lower Cottage, Esclusham Below in 1893 to John and Elizabeth Jones(Lunt), Dad was close to Nellie who married Oswald Nicolls and who died in 1976. Her father John was widowed and according to the 1911 census he and Nellie were staying at Ffronhuelog Hall as Brother-in-Law and Niece of Robert Sauvage (Savage) and his wife Annie - this fits with my Dad’s memories of staying there with his cousins. John Jones is stated to have been born in Esclusham and Boarding House keeper in Esclusham and I presume Annie Savage was his sister. This I know but what I cannot fathom out is where John Evans, Farmer his wife, possibly Elizabeth Jones and son, Great-Grandfather Thomas who was possibly Elizabeth Jones fits with all this - I just know it does!
The only other clue I have is a Thomas Evans on the 1941 census, aged 9 as a male servant to another Thomas Evans a Miller at Llanynys, Bachymbyd which suggests he was orphaned - I don’t know - I hope you can help please!
