1851 census return (my great great grandparents), sundry weddings and birth certificates from there onwards. In the last couple of days, I've traced my great grandmother's sister (born in Bersham), niece and nephews all emigrating to Boston and then on to Utah. The two boys both went to California and lived to the 1960s/1970s.
My great grandfather's family came from the Bala area and, thanks to people who've made contact with me and shared information, I can now trace that line back to 1658.

I too have reached the mid 1600's which was where I decided to give it a rest! Im now in a position where I will have to circulate outwards through neighbouring parish records until I find from which parish the ol' ancestors came. It should'nt be too far as they did'nt travel too far 'allegedly'! ;D
Travelling sideways in your branches can be just and sometimes more interesting. My tracks have taken me to communication as far as an indian reservation in Canada! You never know where you'll end up once you start! ;D

My earliest confirmed ancestor is Thomas Wilcoxon who died Nov 20 1598 and is buried in St Lawrence Church, Frodsham. I have a copy of his will. I also have earlier wills of Thomas Wylcoxson and Marjorie Wylcoxson his wife both of Biggin Derbyshire, but cannot transcribe them . My ggg-grandfather was also a Thomas Wilcoxon b 1803 Holt. He had a illegitimate son Thomas Wilcoxon b 1824( who took his fathers surname and is my ancestor ), another son born out of wedlock was Henry Brown b 1826 in Holt , mother Mary Brown. I`ve had to colour one TW to keep track of him. Thomas b 1803 then married Ellen Jones and had ANOTHER son named Thomas , and a further son and daughter. Ellen died in 1839 and Thomas remarried and had more children !!!!. There are thousands of Wilcoxons in the US and most claim to be descended from a John Wilcoxon b mid 1600s in Cheshire. So far none have been able to really prove a link, and I havn`t been able to find it. The only confirmed Wilcoxon relatives in the US are the daughters of Henry Wilcoxon , the actor, Heather, Dawn and Cecilia. but as he was born in 1905, then they are very recent.
