EXTRACTS FROM WREXHAM RURIDECANAL MAGAZINE
November 30 th being St Andrews Day, the anniversary service was held and continued on Sunday , December 5th. In spite of the onfavourable weather, the service was well attended.
On Wednesday December 8th, the distribution of prizes took place. It was intended to give the children a
" phonograph" entertainment, but owing to an unavoidable mishap it was deferred till the foolowing Tuesday when Mr Frank J Mitchell gave selections on the phonograph which were much appreciated. Recitations were given by Dennis Davies, Edward Evans, Alec Roberts, Herbert Roberts, Mary Diana Roberts and Ruby Walker.
February 8. Shrove Tuesday. a lantern lecture entitled " the Holy Land " was given in the church by the Vicar. Although the weather was unfavourable, it was well attended and a most enjoyable evening was spent.
Easter. The church was beautifully decorated by :- Mrs Clutton, Mrs Couttes, Mrs Evans and Misses M A Roberts and Ethel Dicckenson. Mr Fitz-Hugh was htankeds for lending the palms and flowers for the alter.
March 31. A tea was held in the Vrondeg Council School, and after tea a Service of Song was held in the church. It was encouraging to see many present, and congratulate all those who made it a great success. In the evening the church was over-crowded. The children rendered the music to the satisfaction of all, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Mant thanks were given to Mrs Venables Kyrke for a cheque for £2 as a donation towards repairing the church roof.
May 18 Burial of Alice Mitchell aged 43
June 28 Baptism of Hannah, daughter of Edward and Emma Jones.
June 20. The choristers of the church went to Rhyl for their annual outing. The sun shone brightly all day and we came home tired, but very happy after a very pleasant day. We desire to thank Major and Mrs Alison Brown, who were staying in Rhyl, for kindness in arranging meals.
July 1 Burial of Ebenezer Morris aged 69.
July 7 Burial of Alfred Henry Price aged 1 day.
July 18 Burial of Amelia Price aged 12 days.
July 18 was a beautiful day, and the annual Sunday School tea was a great success. Tea was served at Hafodwen, kindly lent by Mr and Mrs Davies. The children, after a service in church, marched in procession to Hafodwen. After tea, sports were held in an adjoining field which was gaily decked with flags. The Coedpoeth Silver Band played various selections, and while the children joined in sports, the parents and visitors enjoyed the dancing. The tray holders were Mrs Arthur Evans, Mrs Peters, Mrs Kirkham, Mrs Alec Roberts assisted by Mrs Williams, Mrs Allen Roberts, Miss Inions, Miss Evelyn Lester, Miss Ethel Davies. The cutters were Mrs Bowen, Mrs Joseph Clutton, Miss Marie Roberts, Mrs Wynne Thomas, and Mrs Edward Johnson ( of London )
The choirmaster Mr Joseph Roberts superintended the tea in general. The members of St Andrews send grateful thanks to Mrs Venables Kyrke for a donation of £1 towards the tea. We are grateful to Mr John Williams, Minera churchwarden who paid for the bread, and to Mrs Ball who kindly gave us the flags.
July 31. We had our usual Flower service, which was well attended, the flowers were sent to Wrexham Infirmary.

Expenditure. Provisions £1 6s 4d; Sugar 1s 6d; Band £1 5s; Printing 4s 6d; Sports 1s 5d; Sundries 5s; Balance in hand £9 10s 2d. A Wynne Thomas, Sec.

The exterior of St Andrew`s Church has been painted at a cost of £8 5s, and now presents a very pleasing appearance. The work ws carried out by Messrs Rogers & Jackson, Wrexham.
November 24. A whist drive was held at Minera School, in aid of St Andrews, Wern. The weather was a hostile factor but there was a good gathering and avery pleasant evening was spent. Mr Wynne was the Master of Ceremonies, Mr Stevens played the piano, During supper, Mr David Hughes of Wrexham entered with a political stump speech and a recitation entitled " The face upon the floor" The former created much amusement. The evening was closed with a dance and selections from Mr Wynne`s phonograph.
