Tracey has inferred that I have an alcoholically ? inclined ancestry. I think I agree.. On my Mums line - I have 1851 John Davies , publican at Victoria Tavern, Bodfari. In 1863 his grandson Robert Foulkes is born in what is now the Druids Inn Pontblyddyn. My Mums sister Olive was a barmaid at the Feathers Hotel in Wrexham. My Dads line. Thomas Wilcoxon b 1824 was the publican at the Three Mile House, Coedpoeth before moving to the New Inn. His grandson also Thomas married Louisa Alice Jones who was a servant at the Cross Foxes, Coedpoeth in 1901 His half brother Arthur Wilcoxon was in Chester and in 1871 -74 was entered in a directory as a Wine and Spirits dealer in the Vaults, Bridge St. As for me I did play darts for the Cambrian in Wrexham --badly. So how many more of us have ale in our veins, or beer in our blood?

I don't know about beer in the blood - I must have high strength spirits in mine!
In my grandfather's tree I have both Noah Edards (Royal Oak ca 1891) and Edward Edwards (New Inn ca 1891).
As for my direct line - my gt. gt.grandfather was John Blackwell of City Arms, Minera who met an untimely death outside Three Mile House.

Me well i think i would like more alcohol than blood at times but that could be because 3 generations of My Ancestors owned the Five Crosses in Minera including my 2nd & 3rd Great Grandfathers Owen And Thomas Owens and also My Great Uncle Stanley Owens, Eleanor Williams (2nd Great aunt) who was the sister to Thomas Owens owned the Crown Inn in Talwrn and her daughter Mary and husband Cain Tudor ran the pub after her death, There is some indication that John Blackwell was connected somehow but for the life of me i cant find the information now There is also the fact that my great uncle John Owen Owens (Jack) was married to Annette's Aunt Ada who was a Wilcoxon. But remember I'm innocent,... hic had to edit the spelling mistakes as looked as if I'd had a few already

Hi Margaret, John Blackwell was apparently a friend of my ancestor Thomas Wilcoxon, he gave evidence at the inquest of Johns death. I think Llosgi will have more details on this from the Pubs and Inquests book. Small world innit !! Tracey, I forgot about Aunty Ada and Uncle Jack ( John ) another one to my list . So - come on , how many more with pubs in our past.

LOL! - great topic ;D Apart from the Carrington ones in Minera I've found two more publicans over in Bangor. The Griffiths at the Ship Launch Inn and another Griffiths (unrelated) at the Nelson Tavern. It must be in the blood because I also have to admit to spending some time behind the bar at the Washington in Craig-y-Don LLandudno!! It was many moons ago and I deny everything

Well I've got the same Carringtons in the pub industry as Heather and I also have Edward Lloyd who was a Publican, which one though I have not yet discovered but he was one in 1851, but I think thats where it ends, I don't drink myself but my father is always up the club and my brother loves the odd glass of cider from time to time.

What can I say Annette ? maybe more of our relatives should have joined the Temperance movement then we could state that our families owned coffee shops, just dosent have the same ring to it though does it Anyway as yourself I have found a few more on my Owens side my 3rd Great Grandfathers brother, Samuel Owens owned the Crown Inn, in Llandegla for a number of years before he and his wife took over the White Horse Inn in Llanfair DC which at one time was known as the Llanfair Inn ?? and also my 2nd great grandfather was born at the White Lion in Llan, Llandegla but i have yet been unable to locate this pub
but you know how it is, back in those days, wherever you had a coaching house or inn you would usually fina a Blacksmith
as far as pubs are concerned I may probably have a few more connected to myself than you as I lived in a few and have worked as a barmaid in a number of pubs and clubs when i was younger. but if i dont mention them then they cant be counted ha ha ha
Tracey
P.s. Any of you can also join in on this thread, c'mon look again at your family info I bet a lot of you have connections through pubs somewhere along the line but not as many as Annette (whose veins must have beer flowing through them by now) she's given a whole new meaning to "spirits of the ancestors" ;D

This is next to Mount Pleasant , Penygelli Road , where was the pub ?? Annette It seems as far as I can tell that the Mason's Arms was on the corner of Penygelli Road and Tudor Street (thats not named after Cain Tudor is it) and closed in 1925 so it would probably only look like a house now. this info ias as it is described in J C Davies's book Pubs and Inquests.
