Does anyone know where the item mentioned in "Minera" by Glyn Davies on page 90/91 is kept please? I did not come across it whilst at DEN CRO during my last visit although there are later poor law records. DEN CRO suggest that it may be with Wrexham Workhouse records or possibly still in Minera church. Help please

Can only find this from Genuki. Could it have under the Wrexham poor law then. When Civil Registration was introduced (on 1 July 1837), the parish of Wrexham was assigned to the No. 4 ("Wrexham") sub-district of the Wrexham Registration District; which, initially, was co-extensive with the Wrexham poor law Union No. 4 sub-district (Wrexham) : Comprised the Denbighshire townships of Abenbury Fawr, Abenbury Fechan, Acton, Bersham, Bieston, Borras Hofa, Borras Riffre, Broughton, Esclusham Above, Esclusham Below, Erddig, Erlas, Gourton, Minera, Stansty, Wrexham Abbott and Wrexham Regis.

Hello Annedw, The only overseers' records in the Wrexham Poor law collection are dated 1895-1927 so too late for the period I am interested in. The Minera accounts include payments for removals and outdoor relief but thanks for the info and as you say it may be worth an e-mail. I have nothing to loose! It seems strange that there is an extract of the document in the "Minera" book but that the item in question hasn't been deposited eluned

Under 'Poor relief' in the Denbighshire Archives Service's 'Subject Index' are listed the overseers' accounts for several Denbighshire parishes (including Marchwiel, Erbistock and Llangollen) but Minera is not listed.
However, you may be interested in the following:
a) Valuation list, voluntary rate book and poor rate book for Minera parish 1863 1916 DRO DD/DM/78/1-3, and
b) Minera parish collector's monthly statements, and poor rate assessment 1872 1903 DRO DD/DM/101/7-8.
In the 'Places Index' for Minera b) above is given as 'Poor rate assessment and Wrexham union collectors' monthly statements'.

Hi Colcon Thanks for that but I have seen these two items on a previous visit. Interesting documents though.

In what context does Glyn refer to it.

He quotes some entries from it. Not to worry perhaps it was never deposited and is in private hands.

The item is possibly one of the ones that was deposited at the NLW along with other items belonging to the Davies family. Apparently some of these items have mysteriously not been seen since
