Am I plain thick, or does anyone else have trouble understanding how this works. I found something interesting and want to post a reply, but there`s no facility to do this. If I go to Message Boards, there about 6.000.000 entries with the same name, how on earth do I work around this.
I must be doing something wrong, or have just subscribed to the wrong thing. Help please anybody

Hi Both, The Roots chat link for replies should be right at the bottom of the page just off centre towards the left hand side - theres only one for each topic not for each posting - hope this helps!

Hi Alison, I think Annette means Rootsweb not Rootschat Thanks for posting anyway as all suggestions are most welcome

archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/clwyd/ This is the link, but I dunno if you will have to subscribe to view it, People do sometimes leave their email adress, but I don`t want to use them as I`d prefer to keep mine private, unles of course i know who I`m in touch with.

When you subscribe you are sent a copy of the new threads/posts on a daily basis but there must also be a link to the old or archived threads I think

Hi Here is the link for the List for Clwyd. You can use another email just for posting and receiving Annedw. Just sign up for a gmail or hotmail before you subscribe as you must send the email from that address. It's actually your email that subscribes not you personally! lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/WLS/CLWYD.htmlOnce you have subscribed you will either get individul emails or a regular digest - usually several times a week. Depends busy the list is. You can only send or receive emails if you are a subscriber. If you want to respond to an email you see posted you just hit reply and your email goes to everyone on the List. If you just want to search the archives or browse all the emails you can do so without being a subscriber. You can't respond to them through the List but can answer by reading the cloaked email address and sending directly to the poster. Some people will not respond to direct emails but some will. There are thousands of family history related lists for surnames, counties, interests like mariners etc. You can search for one that suits from this page lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/HTH Heather

Thanks, I think I`ve got it now, I`ve already had two emails with posts , both very uninteresting to me so I suppose that`s something I`ll have to put up with. I suppose the `archives ` are threads that are from past months, but thought I could link to them somehow. Nevere mind, I`ll see how it goes before I unsubscribe, if it gets too much. Bye the way, what`s the difference between L and D digest ?

The L is individual emails. There are times when there are too many! The D is the collection of emails since the last digest. It cuts down on the number of emails received. The only problem with this is that you have to do a lot of scrolling through copies of copies of copies etc. so it can be a pain unless people remember to cut and paste. I subscribe to more Ds than Ls but on some lists where there is very little activity so Ls make sense. I was a subscriber to Clwyd for a couple of years but then quit and just read from the archives. It's very simple and automated process to subscribe and unsubscribe so I think many people do that. A lot of people subscribe and post their interests - a bit like a crumb trail as someone may find your post several years later and track you down ;D Heather

I forgot to say one thing. The rootsweb List service was only recently taken over by ancestry. Ancestry have their own message board system which is also searchable. Could be wrong but to use that system I think you need to register for that, or be a member of ancestry. They are not the same thing as rootsweb Information overload all round and gets very confusing Heather
