I'm trying to find the confirm deaths/burials of this family
William Hooson, b c1793 Ellen/Ellinor Hooson b1791 Moses Hooson b1827 died 1849
Joseph JONATHAN Hooson b1833 died 1834
William and Ellen were alive for the 1851 census but I can't find them in 1861 - probably on missing pages? There is a death of a William Hooson in Sep Q 1864 but the only Ellen I can find was in Overton 1862?
thanks H

Annette Thank you but I don't think this Ellen Hooson is mine. There seem to have been several Hooson families in Flintshire so I think this one belongs with them. They probably all connect further back though.
Tom Thank you very much for the Hooson brothers baptisms. I think all three and their descendants ended up in the Minera area. Thanks for offering to help Ellen & William's burials if poss. They must have married outside of Wales because they don't show up on the NW marriage index either.
Heather GO CANADA!!!

I'm not sure who Joseph belonged to as he does not tie in through census with William & Ellen. There is also a Miriam Hooson c1827/1828 who married a Francis Edwards in 1856. It doesn't appear they had children. Am not sure who her parents were. Known Children: Jane c1823 (appears '51 census - married a Charles Williams in 1852) Francis c1824-1902 (appears 41 census Shropshire - married Hannah Roberts Aaron c1826-1892 (51/71/81 census - unmarried) Moses born Aug 7, 1827, bap Ruthin Mill Wesleyan Dec 24, 1827-1849 ( no census - married status unknown) Jonathan born Jun 17, 1833, bap Jun 24, 1833 Ruthin-Mill Wesleyan- bur May 5,1834 Heather

Do you think they were buried in Brymbo Churchyard, or were they Non Com. Hi Annette Only have the baptisms of the two youngest from the Blackwell Index so I think Ellinor & William must have become non-c by the time they died. H

Hi Tom
I think Miriam is probably theirs. If only because Francis Hooson 1824 & Hannah had a daughter c1860 named Miriam
Am having my own senior moment Tom - maybe I sent her to you - I can't remember!!

I,too, have been unable to find confirmed death dates for William Hooson or Elin nee Carrington, but Miriam, who married Francis Edwards in Dec 1856 was certainly their daughter. Another daughter Jane (c1823-31 Nov 1896) married Charles Williams (1827-?1872) and their daughter Eleanor married John Evans (1856-1910), Wesleyan local preacher and in the early years of the last century grocer (Gwynlys) at Bwlchgwyn. Their eldest daughter Jane Ellen (Nel) was Tegla's wife. Tegla says of Elin Carrington(Hooson) that she was one of those who walked over the mountain from Mwnglawdd to Coedpoeth in 1840 to start a Wesleyan cause. Cymroteg

Hi Cymroteg and welcome I would be very interested to know what is written by Tegla (or others) re "those who walked over the mountain" as I am very interested in the Wesleyan movement in this area. eluned

Eluned. I cannot remember whether Tegla published anything about Elin Carrington, or whether it was that he told me about her crossing the mountain. I do, however, have a copy of the unpublished sheet on which he roughly sketched his wife's ancestry and on it he wrote 'Elin Hooson (Carrington cyn priodi) a gerddodd o Mwnglawdd i Goedpoeth yn 1840 i ddechrau achos.' Neither David Young nor Hugh Jones in his four volume history mention her name, though they do record the 25 leaving y Mwnglawdd in 1841 to establish both Coedpoeth and Bwlchgwyn. Tegla, incidentally, corrected Dr Hugh Jones's Welsh for the great work.

Hi and thank you for that. My Gt Grandfather, a Wesleyan, was preaching in Minera and Wrexham from c.1855. He later became a renowned preacher in the Coedpoeth Circuit There was a family story that he crossed one of the local mountains whilst travelling to preach and lost a shoe. He then said "Devil take the other one" and disgarded that too! I had always wondered how much truth there was in the tale. eluned

I have found a possible death/burial for William HOOSON** at Cilcain Flintshire February 22,1862. He is listed as age "62" but he drowned at the Bryn-gwrog mine which I believe is in or near Treeuddyn?. There were two other men listed as buried in the register on February 20, 1862. Edward GOODWIN age 41 and Edward JONES age 27 listed as drowned in the same incident which apparently took place on February 12,1862. The mining disaster site lists an event at BRNGWEOG Mold Flintshire but the victims don't appear on the main database.
BTW I have since found the marriage of William Hooson and Ellen Carrington which took place March 7, 1820 at Richmond St Anne in Liverpool.
**of BWLCH. The family were living at FFynon y Cwrw Brymbo in 1851?
