Pilot was Robert ERskine PLante service number 8651 DOB 19.4.1913 Married, born Brighton Victoria Australia. Enlisted Laverton age on enlistment 26 years 9 months, civilian trade Motor Mechanic. Embarked Melbourne 17.11.43 arrived UK., 8.1.44. Initial course with 21 OTU flew Oxfords and Wellingtons., previous experience flying Ansons and Tiger moths in Tasmania. Assessed as above average recommended for commission once experience gained on operational squadron. Posted 1656 HCU., Lindholme airfield 6.2.1945. Last messgae recieved aircraft was in the Shewsbury area. Official report states missing on non operational operation Shrewsbury area.

Should read aircraft took off Lindholme 6.2.1945, last message from aircraft was approximately 0051 hours 7.2.1945 which put it in the Shrewsbury area. Other than the pilot cannot find any details rest of the air crew

Aircraft was Lancaster LM175, Crew were Pilot, R.E. Plante RAAF, Nav. F/Sgt L. C.Barrett, RAAF., A/B Sgt J. Mackie RAFVR, F/E Sgt E. Smails RAFVF. WOp Sgt J.E. Ralph RAFVR, A/G Sgt A.G Macfarlane RAFVR, A/G Sgt R.H.H. Side RAVR. All remembered on the Runnymeade Memorial. Possibility that the aircraft was flying in cumulo nimbus cloud when the pilot lost control, and crashed in Cardigan Bay.
