I've traced my great grandfather, Thomas JONES back to his birth in Denbigh Adwyr Clawdd in 1851, but in 1911 (census) he was living at Bryn Hyfryd Minera with his wife Catherine Ann and his children: Eliza Ann b1874 John Edward b 1880 Owen Llew b 1884 (my grandfather) Arthur Victor b1889 also there was Elizabeth Ellenor WATKINS (my grandmother).
Thomas and his son John are recorded as coal merchants, but the only relative I ever recall was Uncle Arthur back in the early 1960's. If anyone knows anymore of the family I would be grateful.

A bit more info to complete the picture for you.
My grandfather became an accountant after completing his apprenticeship with Haswell Brothers in Wrexham. He left Haswells in May 1920 and moved to Peterborough with his wife, Elizabeth WATKINS. The 1891 census has Thomas & Catherine JONES and family living at Mount Pleasant, Minera with addtional family children: Catherine E b1876 Thomas William b1883 Christmas b1891, strange I should learn about him on Christmas Eve this year.

Hi, I could not find any of these people buried in Coedpoeth Cemetery but they may be in Minera. I did find an Eliza Ann Jones & Catherine Jones living in Bryn Hyfryd, Minera in the 1937 Electors List. There was an Eliza Ann Jones & Eliza D Jones living in the White Lion Inn, New Brighton. in the 1945 Electors List. These two people are still living together in 1949 & 1951 in 28 Trem y Mynydd, Minera but not there in 1963. I appreciate the electors list gives very limited information but it may help someone give you a lead.-Good Luck Tom

Hi Tom Thats terrific! When you say These two people are still living together in 1949 & 1951 in 28 Trem y Mynydd, Minera but not there in 1963, are you referring to Catherine & Eliza Ann please? They must be my ancestors as the home was at Bryn Hyfryd. Thanks,
Emrys

Hi, Oh well, at least it suggests just the two remained at Bryn in 1937. The rest of the family must have moved on or passed away. Many thanks for your time.
Best Regards

Hello, hope I can help with some info on the Eliza Ann Jones and Eliza D Jones that you have living in the White Lion Inn, New Brighton 1945.
Eliza Ann Jones is my friends wife’s great grandmother and this is what she knows, although it doesn’t sound to me that it’s the ancestors you are looking for.
Eliza Ann Jones nee Gittins b.1880 from Penygelli, Coedpoeth married to Peter Jones b.1877 from Adwy, Coedpoeth in about 1898 5 children, one of whom was Eliza D Jones b.1905. They lived in The White Lion Inn, New Brighton and Peter was also a miner.
Eliza Ann Jones died in 1958, Peter Jones died in 1927, the gravestone is in Coedpoeth Cemetry, facing towards the cottage that once was the White Lion Inn, New Brighton. One of the 5 children a William Richard Jones married Mary Wright (my friend’s grandparents) and they continued to run the White Lion Inn after Eliza Ann went to live in Trem Y Mynydd, Minera, with her children, one of whom is the said Eliza Doris Jones. She has birth certificate of her grandfather William Richard Jones b. 1900 which states his mother as ‘Eliza Ann Jones formerly Gittins’.
Hope this explains who Eliza A Jones and Eliza D Jones are!

I think this rules out the White Lion possibility, thanks everyone. Looks like just two of my family left at Bryn Hyfryd in 1937, Catherine and her elder daughter Eliza Ann. I suspect Christmas died in infancy as he only appears as a 6 month old in the 1891 census. The same census states Catherine (the mother) b1850 at Minera and her father, Edward EVANS a retired tailor b1816 at Bersham was living with them. I'm new to this game so would appreciate any suggestions where I might look to trace the missing members of the family. Thanks in anticipation.

By 1901 Thomas Wm b c 1883 has gone from the family home. In 1891 there seems to be a lodger, John Efor Jones aged 34, Calivinistic Methodist Minister. b Cyfylliog. The page is a little confusing. Does this suggest the family were Non Com. How very strange In 1901 John E Jones 44 Wesleyan Minister b St Asaph is with his wife Emma Jane 33 b Cornwall. The name of the street is MOUNT PLEASANT Melbourne, Nottinghamshire No help with the search, but I just had to post it ;D

Here's the link to Tom Mercer's site which inc MIs for Rehoboth. www.tom-mercer-mi-indexes.org.uk/Rehoboth,%20Coedpoeth.htm Unfortunately very few of the Rehoboth graves have survived following the demolition of the chapel in 2006.

Thanks for all your help but I must be losing what little I have left because I've looked very carefully now at Tom Mercers site and the lists for Rehoboth but have ben unable to find Thomas, Catherine Ann or Christmas. What am I missing please? I've also seen news of the destruction of much of the cemetery, what a disgrace.

Hi, Apologies all round--Please let me make amends with this--As it is all in welsh I will stick to the bare details for now. In Memory of Christmas dear child of Thomas & Catherine Jones, Bryn Hyfryd, Minera born 24 12 1890 died 1 11 1892--Also Thomas Jones died 28 3 1925 aged 74 years -also his wife Catherine Ann Jones died 10 1 1933 82 yrs--As Salem graveyard is only about 300 yards from where I live I will take a pic at the first opportunity and weather allowing for you to see gravestone as it is a kerb rather than a headstone. Hi, The grave is a double one with a more or less square shape and a vase in the centre--the kerbs are covered with turf which is just as well as they have kept the inscription in almost perfect condition.--The pic shows the grave as it is today-Cheers Tom Attachments:
