Seeking Help My family come from the Moss Valley area, My Great Great Grandfather Thomas Pierce in 1871 was living at 10 Moss Road, which no longer exsists, in 1891 the family were at 19 Pendwll Road, and also Lower Boat House, The Lower Boat House I remember as a child although deserted and ruined at that time, and I spent my childhood and teenage years at number 19 Pendwll Road, having been born just down the Road. However, I have a reference to the family living at Well Terrace in 1881. I cannot find aWell Terrace locally. The family certainly did not move out of the as they were employed in the local pits. If anyone out there has any information I would be most grateful

Sorry, Should have said, just location. I suspect it may have been just a few pit houses within a road or street close to one of the number of wells in the area.

minerahistory.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=neighbour&action=display&thread=724The same family are here. www.broughton-history.co.uk/page63.htmlMoss valley wells. A couple of pages later on the 1881 census, is the Royal Oak. It is mentioned in the above link. Well No.13. Michael's Well or Ffynnon Muchael. Leaving the-Floss Well and proceeding up the Bryn Mally line, or Pendwll Road as its officially called, you come to the site where there once stood an Inn called the 'Royal Oak', and between the. 'Royal Oak' and the footpath which leads to Cerni Road above, there were four houses and in front of which passed the line running parallel with the road, and here. was a Well known as Michael's Yell or Ffynnon Muchael, pronounced 'Mu – chael'. I was shown this by one of the old inhabitants; the water from this well could (be) traced flowing down the field in the direction of Stables Road below.

Yes know about those houses, may be worth further investigation. Sorry do not have any reference for the 1881 census. However, the family at that time recorded at Well Terrace but no number were Thomas and Ann Pierce and their 6 children, Ellen, Harriet, John (My Great Grandfather) Robert, Sarah and Edward.

Annedw, Thanks for the last post already have that map. My mother cannot place a Well Terrace in the immediate area, she was born in 1924 in the Bottom Boat House. May be the house(s) had been demolished by then
