Hi, I apologise if this has been suggested or done before, but as I have 3 relatives who died in either WW1 or 2 and their names are on the Coedpoeth war memorial, is it possible to collate the photos of as many of the casualties as possible, together with a brief ouitline of their short lives? This would leave a valuable record for those interested in our village. If this is worth doing , how can it be done? Gwil

Gwil
Re Robert William Edwards the below one was born Coedpoeth. The 1st RWF was nearly wiped out on that date with many killed and missing (around 60-80 survivors temporarily attached to another Regiment). A lot of those missing were later found to be PoW but most of the missing, like the below were never found and are commemorated on Menin Gate. His number, if he was a Regular indicates an old soldier from around 1893. If he was a Special Reservist (3rd Bn) then from early 1909. The fact he landed in France with the Battalion early Oct 1914 and that his War and British Medals are on one of the first pages of their Mdal Rolls makes me lean towards him being a Reglar having enlisted 1893ish. This is only an opinion though. Does this fit in with any other family history regarding Robert?
Even if not, then the below is a 'local'
Name: EDWARDS, ROBERT WILLIAM Initials: R W Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private Regiment/Service: Royal Welsh Fusiliers Unit Text: 1st Bn. Date of Death: 30/10/1914 Service No: 3971 Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 22. Memorial: YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL

The attachment relates to Benjamin Franklin Kelly who was killed in Belgium during the First Battle of Ypres aged 23. He lived at Llys Awen on Heol Llewellyn with his brother (my grandfather), David Hugh Kelly and the rest of the family. Both he, and my grandfather are commemorated on the rolls of honour in the former library (now a snooker club). When I visited and spoke to the guy in charge, it turned out that he lived in the same house as they did - spooky! Attachments:
