Hello everyone, this is my first post to the forum.
I'm researching my Williams family roots and wondered if anyone can help clarify some data and clear up some points.
My 2nd Great Grandparents were Robert Williams and wife Hannah Jones, as identified in the 1881 and 1891 Censuses, which list them with children (including my G-grandfather Jeremiah): in 1881 the family are in Gottaea, Minera with 4 children, in 1891 they are in Wms Row, Coedpoeth. Robert is listed as a Lead miner, born in Mold probably around 1834 (Ancestry has mistranscribed his age in 1891 as 37, it should be 57). Hannah is from "Llanfair", (I assume that's Llanfair Dyffryn?), born circa 1842. In 1881 her brother Robert Jones and his wife Mary are living with the family, which confirms Hannah's maiden name.
Jeremiah's marriage certificate describes his father Robert as a "Lead Washer".
Questions - does anyone know where "Gottaea" is or was? Can you identify "Wms Row" in Coedpoeth?
I can't find any record of the family in 1871 or earlier censuses at all, however I do have a matching marriage record (Wrexham 31st May 1862 11b 558) - Robert Williams (25 - ie. born circa 1837, son of Thomas, Miner) married Hannah Jones (22 - ie. born circa 1840, daughter of Robert, Engineer).
So far so good, though estimated birth dates don't match exactly. But for Robert Williams, there the trail ends. I can't find a definite baptism record - nothing for 1834, the nearest I could find is a Robert Williams born 1836 in Mold. Nor can I find him in any censuses earlier than 1881. Can anyone help?
I've identified a probable baptism for Hannah of 2nd October 1842, in Graig, Adwy Wynt, Egarth Drive, Llanfair. Also a likely marriage for her parents Robert Jones to Mary Powell in Llanfair in 1838. Any more concrete information on this is very much appreciated!
Can anyone confirm the modern location of "Llanfair"? Any help on Robert Williams?
Many thanks!
