People have come across a report that a commercial traveller was shot dead in the Summer of 1940 at a check point near Wrexham manned by a local Home Defence unit. It must have been prior to July 1940 as the Local Defence Volunteers were rename in that month to The Home Guard. I am haveing difficulty finding out any further information, as too a who was the commercial traveller, the location of the incident and the unit involved. Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

Ago No that was certainly not the source. I was looking through some information on Wrexham in general, where this incident was mentioned, but unable to find any confirmation.

What was the " general information" source, where have you looked for more details, have you tried local newspapers. ? Is this for your own research or something else ? www.harpercollins.co.uk/Titles/12969/fighter-boys-patrick-bishop-9780006532040#Ago is right, it does seem to be in here. Search Wrexham in the book, and it is mentioned, but the page isn`t available to view. You would have to download the Ebook , buy it, or try a library.

Annedw. It is for my own research. cannot remember which site I was in and cannot find it again. Just thought it was a chance that member would have come across it. Looks like a trip through the archives at Wrexham museum. Thanks

Ago, Thanks for that information. Have just obtained that volume and it fits the information I read, the only difference being that the report I read stated that it was the driver.
