Wiltons, Minera
Does anyone know anything about a house called Wiltons in Minera? According to the 1911 census my great grandparents George and Ethel Collins lived there. George lists his occupation as "General Dealer", which could mean anything!

Came across this address -- The Wiltons, Maesyffynnon Road, Minera - May be a connection . This link will take you to a house called The Wiltons but there maybe more than one as it may just refer to the general area www.google.com.au/maps/@53.0604513,-3.1010558,3a,15y,300.39h,80.87t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sxXy29-iBM6SkErHHUdIoSQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

Thank you for your reply. I think the present houses at "The Wiltons" are probably built on the site of the old "Wiltons". Any other ideas gratefully received!

The old Berwig Halt was very close to the current location of the Wiltons so it appears this area was/is known as Berwig. The postcard seems very good possibility.

Thanks. I have seen the reference to the postcard. I will either have to go and look at it or pay for a copy. The Berwig Halt photo looks good too.
I have seen an old photo on a Minera website of a woman in a governess cart pulled by a donkey. Not sure how to get in on here. The woman looks exactly like my mother. It's obviously not her (wrong era !) but could be her grandmother who lived in Minera in 1911.

This is another possibility. The description of the photo says the train is approaching Berwig Halt from Vicarage Crossing. In the satellite view there are some ruins which could be the house(s) in this photo. Good luck with the postcard.

I have got a copy of a 1910 OS map of Minera and it shows Wiltons clearly. Going out of Minera towards the Lime Works it is just past Berwig Cottages, on the RHS of the road. I have shown the photo of the woman in the governess cart to a number of relatives and they are amazed at her likeness to my mother and her sister. I still have no idea why my great grandparents were living in Minera. As far as I know they had no connections with the area.
