December
The annual prize giving to Sunday school members took place on Dec 10. Instead of the usual lantern lecture Mr Roberts of Mount Pleasant gave " a very pleasing entertainment on the gramophone"
Christmas Day. Owing to the very bad weather the attendance was somewhat below the average. It is desired that church people would make greater effort to be present at at least one service.
February 7. A social evening was held to present Rev G R Davies on his departure from the parish, with a Chesterfield couch, two armchairs and an oak bookcase.
Tea was provided for over 300 people which was organised by Mrs Fitzjohn and several other ladies. During the entertainment that followed, Mrs Massie of Minera Hall presented the gifts. The statement of accounts were. Receipts totalled £16 11s 6d.
Expenditure - Cost of moving piano, 2s 4d, cost of milk 1s 10d, cost of floor polish 1s 6d, Mr & Mrs Rogers 4s, hire of crockery ( Mrs Owen) 1s, Mr Davies ( caretaker of hall) 2s, Mr Greatorex ( cake , & c ) £2 10s 8d, Mr T Carrington ( printing) 14s, Mr F Stevens ( cakes ) 12s, Hire of Public hall 15s, secretarial expenses 2s, Maypole Dairy Company ( per Mrs Vaughen Griffith ) 6s 6d, milk and coffee ( per Miss Hughes ) 1s 10d. The Nett Balance of £10 3s 6d has been devoted towards clearing off a long standing debt on the St Tudfils Church re-roofing and heating apparatus fund.
Easter.
The church was decorated by Mrs Vaughen Griffiths, Miss Yates , Mrs Croxford, Mrs Parry Griffith, Misses Borlase, Mrs Fitzjohn, Miss Kitto, Miss Crockett and Miss Georgina Davies. The congregations were much larger than usual and the services were bright and impressive.
April
A fund was started to provide the choristers with new cassocks " which are sadly needed"
April 25th
An interesting and instructive lecture on " The History of Chester" was given by Mr D Brellisford Jones. It was illustrated by lantern slides " which were exceedingly good"
A beautiful Eagle Lectern in polished brass was presented by Mr R O Jones in memory of his father, the late Mr R O Jones of Penygelli Hall.
May 8th
A special communion at 8am for those who wish to become members of The C of E Mens Society, it is hoped that there will be a large attendance of men.
June.
The cassock fund had reached the sum of £7 3s 6d
An organ recital regarded as a `great musical treat" was given by Mr E J Cunnah organist of Gresford Church. A collection amounted to £3 7s 6d.
July 16.
The choir had their annual outing to New Brighton. The day was perfect and the Tower Grounds, pier &c afforded a long day of amusements and interest. Thanks are due to Mr Scott for carrying out the arrangements so efficiently.
August 15th
The annual Sunday school treat was held at Lloftwen field, kindly lent by Mr Hughes. There was a short service at 3 pm and then all marched in procession to the Mission room where an excellent tea was waiting.
After tea we adjourned to the field where games and amusements were indulged in. During the sports the Coedpoeth Silver Band played various selections.
The Bread Cutters were - Mr Wright, Mrs A Jones, Mrs Hollington and Mrs Rogers. Tea maker - Mr M Rogers. Many people contributed to the day with donations of tea , sugar, bread, butter, milk, currant bread and toys.
Mr Stevens of Wrexham donated 150 buns and Mrs Scott supplied the table cloths.
A sale of work and a Rummage was being planned for a date in October.
September
The Sunday School Treat balance sheet showed that a profit of £5 7s 7d was made.
An apology was made that the names of Mrs Tennington and Miss Mitchell were omitted from the list of helpers.
October
On the 14th the Harvest Thanksgiving was held.Rev Canon Fletcher was unable to attend owing to disposition, and Rev W Rees the Vicar of Berse came to the rescue and preached an admirable sermon.
October 22nd, the members of the Mens Society were entertained by Sergeant - Instructor Lewis, followed by an excellent supper.
October 25, the Sale of Work and Rummage was held in the Church Room. The tables were tastefully arranged with many useful articles. Thanks were given to Mr & Mrs Scott for lending the piano, tables , tablecloths etc.
Mr Parry Griffith for his ardent work as M.C. Mr R. O Jones for his selection on the gramophone.Sergt. Lewis for his recitations. Miss Clara Thomas and Miss Eronica Ellis for their song and dance. A total of £17 17s 10d was made.
November 16. An interesting and instructive address was given by Mr Renfree, Gwersyllt on the work of the C E M S. In spite of the inclement weather a good number came. The members of the church attended the early Celebration of St Tudfils Church on November 27 for Communion. We should have liked to see more present.
The St Tudfils Young Mens Society which has been in existence for 9 years., has started its winter Session, large numbers have joined. We now have two billiard tables in full swing and hope to secure a third in a few days. Members meet in the Church Room, on Monday and Friday evenings from 7 to 10.
The exterior of the Church Room has been repaired and painted at a cost of £15 9s 6d, the work was done by Messrs Rogers & Jackson, Wrexham.
