I have now uploaded some quite interesting news paper reports on the new Coedpoeth section 'news snippets', concerning the murder of Caroline Evans. Whether or not this chap did commit the act is a mystery If anybody has info or an opinion to share on this terrible event - then please do...

Hi, Just reading about the murder in Coedpoeth; Is it the only murder in Coedpoeth? - was she or her husband connected to the 'Red Lion' pub? Can't be sure, but I heard something about this a long time ago, just trying to match the two together!!
Thanks

Mrs Caroline Evans' mother had the City Arms pub in New Brighton, Minera, which she was heading to on the night of her death.

Hi, Is her name Davies or Evans? I heard there was a murder in Coedpoeth, many years ago! - do you know if she was a daughter of a coal merchant called Pritchard? - had a sister called Mary Elizabeth? I have been told that a relation was murdered in Coedpoeth, or around that area - just trying to see if it was her Thanks

Hi, Just realised it could not be the person I was looking for - it would have made her about 70 years old!! - but if anybody does know anything about a lady who was murdered in or around there in the 1900+ W would like to know!! Thanks

Many thanks to Annette for sending more snippets of info regarding a Mr Rusdell who claimed to have been responsible for the death of Caroline Evans in 1945. I have included them at the foot of the 'snippets' page on the coedpoeth section. Link; www.coedpoeth.minerahistory.com/snippets.html

Similarly to Merfyn Williams , I too was in church , in the choir, but at St Mary's Minera when the news broke. Being young and enthusiastic, after church, I rushed to my Gran's and proudly informed everyone that a body had been found in Coedpoeth Cemetery. Although almost correct, despite the ridicule at the time, subsequent events proved I had been telling the truth, almost. The sight of the bowler-hatted detective from Scotland yard ( Percy Philpott ) I think, in company with one of the local detectives, became a fairly common sight as they walked the path, up-river passing my Nain's house. The main suspect at the time seemed to be an airman, no one knew who, but a forage cap had been found in the vicinity. I don't think that the subsequent confessor had anything to do with it, as for many years after that event on and off the detectives used to visit Mrs Williams at the City Arms. Hen Locsin

This Rusdell chap sounded a right nutcase. Whilst it was thought he was not responsible for the death of Mrs Evans, he would have only been 14 at the time. His claim to have been, along with my having original newspapers claiming such I thought worthy of inclusion. Annette sending in the latest snippets, I thought worthy of adding just so we all know what eventually came of this person. In respect of the cap, was the owner found and questioned? I have heard that someone claimed the cap from coedpoeth police station? Is this correct? Is it true her husband was initially a suspect?
