I found this on the bbc wales website , don`t have any more details on where the crash was. Not sure if it the sort of info you need www.bbc.co.uk/wales/northeast/sites/askalocal/pages/wwii3.shtmlPete Smith from Northants My father, as the RAF court of enquiry for 9 group at Barton Hall, investigated a crash at Wrexham of a Dakota in I think 1943 - full of American GIs, all of whom sadly suffocated due to oxygen starvation caused by fire. Should anyone wish to know more please contact me at hooter@tinyworld.co.uk

I can recall being taken by our teachers from Minera school to the " Five Crosses " where a German airplane was temporarlly situated, having crashed, in the locality, possibly Minera Mountain, but of that I'm not sure; or which particular make it was. On another occasion we visited the field at the side of the Pentre-Saeson road, next to Owens' smithy, where a barrage balloon had also been brought down; from where I've no idea. During the Air raid on Minera Mountain I do recall being carried by my Uncle to an Air Raid shelter below the " White Road " just past Ty Brith, on the right hand side. This was dug into the bank presumably by the numerous quarrymen who resided in the district. Later a brick built Air Raid shelter was erected in the field, just over the bridge, before Penybont Cottage, on land belonging to TyBrith, and near what was the old Slaughter House. Now all landscaped, and a very desirable residence, recently up for sale. The shelter was almost demolished at one point when a Bren-Gun Carrier didn't quite make the bend at the bottom of Pentre Hill, and demolished the stone wall, and part of the blast wall of the shelter.
