I am sure that our member, Annette Edwards has e-mailed in a pic of Machine Cottage, which will soon be uploaded onto the sites. I have no idea why it has this name though

The photo I have is named as The Machine House. They were so called because that is what they were, a building to house machinery, possibly a weighing machine Probably in this area they were coal mine buildings, there are others named the Engine House, Pump House etc. The house I have is just down the road from the Five Crosses to Ffrwd, and in a lane off on the left hand side ( so I have been told )

I assume....
Machine house to be....
Turn down alongside Five Crosses Inn on what is Gwern Y Gaseg Road. Willowbank Road is first right and almost immediately after this turning is a rough track also on the right hand side leading down the valley. I assume Machine House to be down this track on the right hand side.

I`ve found the Machine House, exactly as directed down Gwern Y Gaseg Road and down the track just by Willow Bank Road. It is now called Bryn Tegla, Apart from a porch/conservatory and an extension it is pretty much the same as it was in 1905. Any information on this place will be appreciated, the couple who now live there have been there 28 years, the deeds only go back to 1901. They have not found out very much about previous occupants, It`s nice to see an old place that has retained it`s character.

Hello Annette, Glad to see my directions were correct. I recognised the house when you sent the old pic to me a couple of months ago. (Will update it onto site eventually!) I knew from the pic that it was not Machine Farm on Maesyffynnon Road but recognised the house where I directed - glad I was right!
