AT LONG LASTAfter phone calls, emails, more phone calls and finally a `lovely day` in Bangor I have the baptism and burials registers for Wern Chapel -- well at least 400 plus digi pics. Baptisms date from 1818 to 1892. There are 1965 entries Burials date from 1822 to 1890. There are 1341 entries No marriage register, don`t know why, were there none at this Chapel or was the register lost Hopefully they will be available to all visitors to this site some time in the near future. If you have a name and date I will try to check for you.

Excellent Annette I have to adapt the database now to accomodate some of the information contained in the registers But from the samples it seems that there is a lot of valuable information held within the registers If I start work on this with yourself soon I think we could have most of this information on the website within a few weeks A big thank you goes out to Bangor University for letting us be the first Family history Group to be able to transcribe these priceless items of valuable family history Tracey ;D

I`m making progress on the burials, after a very bad start using a programme I know nothing about and a million and one emails to Tracey crying for HELP !!!!! It is really quite tragic reading the names and ages of the people who died. There are man and wife, father and son, brothers and sisters all within days and weeks of each other, even one poor man who buried three children on the same day. One Robert Roberts, the molecatcher has lost four in a couple of years. There are no details on the cause of death , which is a shame, the only one so far is a 10 year old girl `found dead in the field`. If any one wants me to have a looksee for some-one, give me a name and rough date, and I`ll see what I can find.

Wern Congregational Chapel, Wrexham, Denbighshire.
Administrative/Biographical history: Services are no longer held at the Wern chapel according to an article dated 1955. The chapel is situated in the parish of Wrexham, in an area well known for its rich mineral resources. A remote area with rough and inaccessible roads and a thin population where the chapel members travelled far and wide to attend services. The first minister of the Wern was William Williams who was ordained in October 1808. A new chapel had been built the previous year. There he stayed for 30 years until 1837 when he received a calling from Liverpool. He was followed by Rev. John Parry of Machynllech, 1840-1845 and he was succeeded by William Lloyd in 1846. In 1868 a schoolhouse was built and in 1872 a house for the minister.

I myself is making steady progress through the baptismal registers and i can see a steady lineage within families from 1808, I am currently up to 1822 with a predominant following in the chapel of the Challinor family Griffiths and Pugh to name just a few..... keep a close look on the site for updates to see that the registers are available online which should be in the not too distant future extra special acknowledgement should be given to Annette for taking the time to obtain the registers so that we can all benefit from their transcription and eventual access via an internet database

Update on the transcriptions of the Burials and Baptisms
Annette and I have been busy typing away in order to get this information online We are hoping to have finished transcribing Baptisms 1808- 1858 and Burials 1822-1890 by the end of this week. If I have enought time this weekend i will be able to upload these to the Minera parish records site for all to view.
The final transcriptions for baptisms 1858 to 1892 will be finished within the next few weeks with a bit of luck

Annette and She Devil - thank you for all your hard work on the Wern records so far!
I have found two of Gwenda's ancestors amongst the burial records, Thomas Parry and his wife. They took over the Ffynnon-y-Cwrw farm in Bwlchgwyn when the Wilkinson estate was disposed of and they were amongst the founding members of the Congregationalists in Bwlchgwyn - before a proper place of worship could be built, services were held at various village locations, including services held by Williams O'r Wern at the granary at Ffynnon-y-Cwrw.
As we hadn't been able to find these people in Bwlchgwyn (no graveyard for that chapel), I was hoping I might find them at Wern. Bit of a journey, though, from Bwlchgwyn to the Wern!
Thanks again Hilary

I am in the process of setting up the Wern Baptisms 1808 to 1858 to be uploaded to the Parish Records site hopefully either later this evening or tomorrow They have been transcribed and the remaining book of baptisms is currently being worked on by Annette and myself to be added in the next few weeks
For any of you that do not know how to get to the site from the links page if you look to the left under my Avatar you can click on the icon of a House and that should take you to the main page of the baptism marriages and records site
Hope some of you can get interesting information off there

Just so you all know how the controls work for the flashpaper at the moment the Text looks very small but of you click on the tool on the flashpaper bar that looks like a box inside a box in the top righthand corner the document will open up in a new window to full screen size then if still too small use the slider bar to increse the percentage
hope this helps

Great site thanks I've just been looking through the Wern Baptisms and found one of my Edwards's Maria Edwards B 1852 to Price Edwards and Ann Jones. The thing that has me puzzeled is the distance to Wern from Bwlchgwyn. It seems a long way to go to get baptised! I have them on the 1851 and 1871 census in Bwlchgwyn. ( cant find them on the 1861 ) David

It is quite a distance, isn't it? But the Congregationalist Chapel came later to Bwlchgwyn and even then it never had its own graveyard. Meanwhile Williams O'r Wern was often invited to preach at various farms, houses, granaries and temporary chapels in Bwlchgwyn so it seems that the adherents had to go to his chapel at Wern for the more formal occasions. But I agree, it would be heavy going in bad weather, especially. Hilary

Seems to be between 2.5 to 3 miles but maybe there was a pony and cart put on for people who wanted to visit that particular chapel and back in those days 2.5 miles was nothing to walk when you was on Shanksy's Pony Im sure someone will have more information, Possibly Annette may have something documented in one of her congregation books Tracey

The Minera Records site has now been updated with baptisms from 1808 to 1892 new security measures are being rolled out starting with this entry When you press on the box within a box icon (to get the full page document for easier reading) you will go to a url that will say something like Zanzibar fiction you will need to click the link that says original URL to get the full page.
I have changed how Flashpaper 2 works for Printing and copying this means that this option will no longer be available and was one of the criteria stipulated when we obtained the original information from Bangor University Library. Apologies for any inconvenience but is necessary to protect the hard work that Annette and I go to to bring you this information freely
To date I would just like to tell you that just within a Month the total unique hits to the site has totalled 47 which is quite a few individuals. My stats do record the amount of hits that it generates but i keep my stats to show unique ones so that your ip is only counted once no matter how many times you visit
Annette Myself and Llosgi hope that you all get some benefit from the information available from this sister site Tracey

Well worth the wait shedevil, many thanks for all the hard work. I have got a query though. My Kelly family; Edward Llewellyn Kelly, parents Edward and Miriam. This appears twice. Don't want to seem picky but just need to check that its just been duplicated and not wrong name listed. Many thanks, Lynn
