I have a headstone Elizabeth, (who was the wife of R Foulkes.) Died March 2 1913 aged 78. R F died Jan 12 1883 aged 55. I can`t find Elizabeth in the death index , and she`s not in the relevant church records. Any suggestions on this one

Could she have been living with a relative when she died?
There is Elizabeth, March 1901. Wrexham 11b 222, who was 73 when she died.
My great great grandmother lived all her life in Nether Alderley but died in Southport - we think she was taken there as a hopeful cure for her TB.

Hi Annette Is it possible the death was registered as Sarah Foulkes? There is one aged 79 registered in Wrexham in the 2nd quarter of 1913, 11b, page 386. Might be worth checking??

Hi Annette Not 100% sure if I have the right family, but if they were living in Leeswood in 1871, by 1891 their son William Foulkes (b 1858in Staffordshire) was married to a Sarah Hughes? in Gwersyllt. If Sarah was the one who reported the death, perhaps the names were switched around by the clerk?? Have you traced the rest of the children for more clues??

This family is a nightmare, yes they are the one in Swettenens Row , Leeswood in 1871 , also with a daughter Annie b Hawarden, before that in 1861 theyr`e in Mow Cop and in 1881 in New Rhosrobin where Robert died. There children were born all ever the place , an Elizabeth in Wigan. Because there are other Foulkes families ,similer names all born Flint , all coal miners who went to Staffs for work , I can`t suss out who is who. I thought that Elizabeth could have gone to live with one of her children but I can`t trace her in 1891, there is a possible one in 1901 living with her grandson ? Howells, but in 1891 the child is with his parents George and Elizabeth, when I crosschecked for a marriage Elizabeths name wasn`t Foulkes. Sorry if this is a bit brief and mudded, its` early and I am rushing to get ready to go away I am away for a while so you`ll get no replies.

I have visited the parish records section... I too had trouble initially, but persisted again and the page loaded.

Hello Annette I found four of the Foulkes children on the 1901 census, Bennett, William, Daniel & Annie, and saved the images in case you don't have them. Unfortunately no sign of Elizabeth. There is a death for a Bennett Foulkes registered Q3 in Tamworth, vol 6b, page 229 age 53.
Hope this helps! Heather

Annie was a Hughes by then, married 1887. is that right. This missing Elizabeth is the mystery, I`m sure she must have been with one of her children, but which one and where.

Yes Annette I believe that's correct. Annie married a railway engine driver John HUGHES in 1887. They were living in Gwersyllt in 1901.
So three of Elizabeth's children, Elizabeth born c 1853, John c1861, and Robert c1867 are still unaccounted for in 1901?? Would you like me to keep looking or do you have them already?

Thanks , but it is only Elizabeth I was looking for, I`m helping some- one else to try to find her, but with nothing certain yet. I`m sure he has all there is on the rest of the family. I have found a possible death entry in 1913 June qtr , aged 73 in Liverpool, but it`s the wrong quarter, as she died in March. Could the entry have been put in later, I don`t know about this though ? I think she died elsewhere and it`s only her name on the headstone, but there`s a chance that the date may be wrong on the MI. Don`t spend time on this, problem is there are too many to choose from , thanks for trying.

According to Barbara Dixon's excellent website, the death might have been registered later because it required a doctors certificate or an inquest was required. www.dixons.clara.co.uk/Certificates/deaths.htmSo where the person appeared on the index would depend on when the death was registered. There`s a lot of things to think about now, her age , 73 /78 , it could have been an error , and if it was her that died in Liverpool, then her inscription was surely added a bit later, but by who. It certainly shows you can`t always rely on what is on a certificate. Thanks for this
