I found my ancestor Thomas Wilcoxon in 1851 in the `Coedpoeth Machine House,` and when I came accross a photo taken by my Gt Aunt ,dated 1905 titled the Machine House I assumed that it was the same place. ;D
In 1851 the head of the house was Robert Roberts aged 40 born Pentre Voelas.
I found that the Robert family were still there in 1881 and decided to follow them up, but in 1861 the property was called `Old Machine House, Chapel `
1871 it is `Old Machine` and is listed as the next dwelling to 18/19/20 of the Twenty Houses and 5 Crosses Tavern, occupied by the Thomas Owens and his Family , the grandson of Thomas married into the Wilcoxons in later years.
In 1881 it has the same place -name.
Going back to 1851 I found on the next page another Machine House occupied by Joseph Chaloner aged 75 a clerk.
I have found this house on the 1845 tithe map , and the occupier then was Joseph Chalenor, so it seems that the house I thought was part of my family history was not, and it looks like Great Aunty Edith was mistaken too,
After all this , what I want to know is where was MY Machine House , close to the 5 Crosses that the Roberts lived in --- and is there any one that can help with finding who lived in later years in the `Machine House` that Joseph Chaloner lived in, and is actually the one off Willowbank / Gwerygaseg Road.
I think there is a moral here that just because you have a photo of Great Aunt Mary, don`t presume that it is your Granny`s sister.
It could be her brother who was a Victorian transvestite ;D
