Antiques Roadshow was running on 405 tonight, it was the Wrexham edition with the Coedpoeth quilt on it. It was nice to see the quilt again. I hadn't realised the first time I saw the programme that the lady who brought the quilt to the roadshow was the granddaughter of Mr Carrington who won the auction for it so many years ago, or that all the names were embroidered by just one lady - was it Mair Evans?

"People were asked to pay 6d to have their name stitched into the coverlet in 1914 and the money went to the WW 1 effort. Rehoboth Welsh Methodist Church Coedpoeth came up with the idea and the names were stitched on by Mair Evans, a member of the congregation. It raised more than 25 pounds - equivalent to 3,000-4,000 today in signatures alone. It was purchased at auction the same year for an unknown price. It is a priceless piece of local history which also holds information of the genealogy of many local people who had their names on it." Daily Post Feb 1, 2002
I have a pdf file of the list of names as printed by the Wrexham Museum if anyone would like a copy.

I saw some photos of the quilt recently and it is just wonderful. All that work, people were very dedicated weren't they? I would love to see a list of the names that were included please Heather, as Rehoboth was used by many of my family at various times. It would be nice to find out that someone had their name stitched on to it. Lynn

Hello Heather - may I also request a copy of the names please. I am certain that many of my Coedpoeth family of the time would have been included. Many thanks- Margaret
