Hello, I am trying to research the history of a branch of my family that I believe lived in Bwlchgwyn. It could be that they were in business in Bwlchgwyn but lived in one of the nearby villages.
E.G. (I think it was Edward George) and Maud Jones had two daughters, Olwen and Ethel. The only firm date that I have is that Olwen was born in January 1916.
The story in the family goes that they owned or managed mines in the area and had a good lifestyle living at "Bradford House". At least Maud had moved to the area from Bradford, Yorkshire and they moved back to Bradford around 1927 to 29.
There was possibly some sort of incident before the move, maybe the business collapsed, as their lifestyle in Bradford was apparently nothing like as affluent as it had been in Wales. Also I've heard that someone to do with the business, maybe the accountant, committed suicide over the incident.
I am trying to find out: If EG and Maud were married in the area, if so when and where? Exactly when they moved form Wales to Yorkshire? Anything more about this mysterious incident that seemed to prompt the move.
many thanks. Paul

The only Olwen Jones that I can find recorded in Wrexham Area of Q1 1916 is one with the mother's maiden name of Hughes [Wrexham Q1 1916 Vol 11b page 394] It may be an idea to purchase this birth certificate to give you more clues to whether this is your Olwen or not and would give you the fathers full name and Occupation also an address at the time of birth. With regard to Bradford House, the only mention I can find of a Bradford House relates to a property in Bala
Hope this is of some help to you

Croeso / Welcome to the boards Paul...
'Bradford House' is located in the centre of the village of Bwlchgwyn on the main A525... ...Recently rennovated and on the market for a considerable time, Bradford House finally has had a 'sold' sign erected only last week.

Not sure what year your ancestors moved to this house in Bwlchgwyn, but 'Bradford House' of Bwlchgwyn is named on both the 1891 & 1901 census' and is occupied both times by the family of Richard Rogers who is a 'tailor & draper', born Llandegla.

Hi,
What dates, roughly, do you have for Maud Jones? I can only think of one, she was a dressmaker, but I don't think her husband would have the kind of occupation you described, so it's probably a red herring!
