Thanks to the kindness of Annette, I have discovered that my 3xgreat grandfather John Carrington died in April 1837 at the age of 43. Since most of the Carringtons were fairly long lived once they survived into adulthood, I'm curious if he died in a mining accident like his son Thomas in 1875. Anyone else have relatives who died in April 1837?

You make me blush , Heather, you know I enjoy `digging` `cos of what else turns up. There was nothing at all to say how John died , but other deaths from accidents and diseases had notes saying how they died.. eg, Drowned and found in Acton pond. Killed by fighting at Minera Chapel, Killed in mine. Burned in fire. Cholera.

Well it's my turn to blush now because the mystery of John Carrington's death may not be solved after all! Rhian has pointed out to me that there was another John Carrington, son of John C(1753) and Jane Edwards who was baptized December 18, 1793. "My" John, son of Thomas C (1756) & Jane Foulkes was baptized July 18, 1795..... So without an MI or obit for confirmation there is no definitive answer. My John was married to Barbara Jones who is listed as a widow on 1851 census. As far as I know their last child (also John )was baptized July 29, 1834 so there isn't much of clue there. I don't have a marriage for the other John - at least not from the Llandegla/Llanarmon/Minera PRs. .....

Oh well, If you think that there may be some thing in the years 1813 to 1837 on the original films that may help, I`ll see if I can find it. At least it`s not a Jones we`re looking for. ;D ;D ;D It takes me 15 mins by bus to the Museum from home and I am free most afternoons , so it`s no hassle for me. I`ve only just realised the BMD indexes start at July, I assumed that they were from the start of the year 1837.

Hi Annette It is very kind of you to offer - but only if and when you are in the vicinity. I looked in the Times Online archive and there was a notice about very heavy snowfall in Wrexham in April that year - it was a quote from a paper called the Cheshire Courant?? Do you know if there was a local Wrexham paper in 1837? Maybe there was an obit - his mother Jane was still alive so maybe she would have put a notice in the paper...Assuming the 1837 is my John of course. Yes the BMDs did start in the 3rd quarter of 1837. I've looked at all the indexes from 1837 through to 1851 but there was nothing. I got lucky with one of my Davies in Bangor. Her birth was registered August 1837. Win some lose some!! Another thought I had - someone told me a while back that there were Carringtons (plaque/memorialized) inside the church at Minera St. Mary's. Does anyone local know if this is in fact the case?? Any further input on that would be great Heather

There`s no newspapers that early in Wrexham Museum, Wrexham Advertiser starts at 1850 -1852, 1857-1945 , 1953-1957 There are a couple of papers for 1848/49 but thats too late as well.
As I said before, I`m often in town and love an excuse to do some research. I`ll see what I can find for Carringtons in those 1813-37 years.

Hi Annedw Thank you very much for that. The first couple are definitely mine. The second one is interesting. For some reason I had a Mary Rogers marrying Francis C not Thomas C on that date So now I'm really confused This is Rhians branch of the family so maybe she can help us figure it out Thomas C senior had an illegitimate son Thomas by Elizabeth Hughes born in 1783 baptised in Wrexham - he seems to disappear....perhaps there is a clue somewhere there.
