Can anyone advise me where I can find inquest info on my grt grandmother name Elizabeth Davies (nee Jones) killed in an accident at Penygelli in May 1877, age 36. I can't recall it in Cliff's Pubs and Inquests. Also which is the best site to research ancestry as regards information and cost?

Records of inquests are held at the Ruthin archives If you are a distance away the staff there are very helpful and may know immediately where the information may be located, There is a charge for them to do the research on your behalf but I have found in the past that this is well worth the money if you are not able to get there yourself www.denbighshire.gov.uk/ll/LifeLong.nsf/336d35c7c1be057d80256a8f003d91d7/1da2d3f4695a41af80256c77003e6ce8!OpenDocument If you are a great distance away this may cost you more than £21 for you to get there yourself. My advice is to ask for more than the initial request of the inquest details and try and see if you can add in a few BMD requests, give as much information regarding your family as possible then you could end up with a lot more findings for the cost of the first hour Tracey

There is an index of inquests available to view at Hawarden Records Office as well. ;D It could also be reported in the Wrexham Advertizer, there are copies on microfilm in Wrexham Museum. Are you too far away to visit.

Christine, it was you that found `my Machine House` for me, so hopefully I am returning the favour, I have found a report of the inquest in the Wrexham Advertiser, very sad. There is not a lot to tell, and a few words are quite hard to read. I have also sent a private message to you.

Thank you very much for answering my query on inquests, and special thanks to Annette who actually found the details of the inquest within a few hours and printed it for me. Thanks to Tracey for mentioning Ruthin Records office, I do live locally (Coedpoeth all my life) so distance is no trouble. Once again thanks - it is a great site. Christine

Hi Christine, I have checked on the index for inquests held at Ruthin and it seems that there is a gap from 1849 to 1916 where there are no indexes available. It seems that have gone ` missing`, so sadly for you there is no more to be found. It will be a challenge for you to find those" five little ones ", but at least you have one name to start on.

Hi Annette Thanks very much for looking for the information for me, what a shame, but never mind I have the print out of the paper you found, and my grandfather's name - I might find something from that, and eventually the other 4 children left orphans. Once again thanks for info. Christine
