Hi guys
Ok - sorry this replay is delayed - being 8 hours behind out here in Vancouver leads to a lag in communications of about a day!! The situation is not helped by the fact it was a couple of years ago that I gathered all the info onto my computer, I am slowly losing my brain cells these days and I no longer have a current sub for ancestry
Another complication is that my email contacts with a descendant of this line from Scotland is either on the PMs on this board or on my old computer
So bear with me as I try to work this out with what I have. At the very least we may be able to prove that there were two Jonathan Roberts in circulation!
FIRST FINDING:
I have found the 1851 census IMAGE for the Jonathon Roberts that married Naomi Carrington. So that reference is H107/2503, page 11 Minera
39 Pant Bwlchgwyn
Hugh Roberts, Head, Married, age 50, occ Lead Mine Agent, Denbs. Minera
Dorothy Roberts, wife, mar., age 54, Agent's wife, Denbs. Llanarmon
Jonathan Do, son, Un, age 21, occ lead miner, Denbs Minera
Enoch Do, Son, age 15, occ Errand Boy at the mine, Denbs., Minera - (the occupation has a wavy line through it on the original image(
Jesse Do, son, age 11, no occ., Denbs. Minera
SECOND FINDING
I do apologize for this one - had the right year for marriage of Jonathan & Naomi but NOT Llandegla. The marriage took place in Minera October 18, 1859
Jonathan ROBERTS (miner) sig s/o Hugh ROBERTS (mine agent)
parish of Bwlychgwyn, ba.
Naomi CARRINGTON sig d/o Aaron CARRINGTON (butcher) parish of Bwlychgwyn, sp
witnessed by Jesse ROBERTS, sig and Miriam CARRINGTON sig (believed to be brother and sister of the
bride and groom groom & bride respectively)
Naomi Carrington ROBERTS, age 43 of Abergroesnewydd, Llandegla was buried at Minera March 20, 1880
Jonathan ROBERTS, age 66 of Bwlchgwyn was buried at Minera April 6, 1896
Their children must have been heathens or baptised in Wrexham! as they were not baptised at Minera and I cannot see them on the Blackwell Index for Wrexham area anyway. I believe the birth years were derived from BMD indexes and/or census only.
THIRD FINDING
In the Clwyd FHS transcription of Minera Marriages on Sep 11, 1886 i see a marriage of
Robert ROBERTS sig (crusherman), age 38 s/o Edward ROBERTS (miner) of Cefnymaes, Psh of Bwlchgwyn, ba, and
Dorothy JONES, AGE 27 sig d/o John JONES (blacksmith) of Minera, sp
witnesses Robert JONES sig and Mary EVANS x
(by Superintendent Registrar's Certificate)
FOURTH FINDING
In the same transcription of marriages I see both Alice's marriage at age 18 from New Brighton to John Thomas Lloyd March 22, 1880 and Joseph Robert's marriage age 20 from Abram's Cottage, New Brighton to Hannah Williams age 20 from New Brighton in 1893. The transcriptions end in 1902 so the final one i know nothing of.
FIFTH FINDING
Ah now perhaps we are getting somewhere - on the BLACKWELL INDEX NonConformist register for Cefn Mawr, Wesleyan Chapel
Jonathan ROBERTS BORN 27/3/1834, bap 13/04/1834
father Edward ROBERTS, forgeman of Rhosymedre, Ruabon Psh
mother Elizabeth (md/o Thomas & Margaret JONES)
CONCLUSION
Jonathan Roberts 1834 was in all likelihood a butcher and the father of Alice, Joseph and Edward but does not appear to be the same man as the one who married Naomi..... Suggest you search the censuses using 1834 birthdate to see if that gets you anywhere. My PR transcripts for Ruabon Marriages only run to 1812, baptisms to 1802 and burials to 1777 so I'm afraid I can't help you with ancestors until you get that little bit further back! Once you do I will be happy to help with lookups - just send me a PM. There is one other sibling for this Jonathan in the Blackwell Index - nothing up to 1837 after his birth:
Maria birth 15/05/1832 bapt 29/05/1832 - same parents/details as Jonathan
Hope this helps and No annette - since they were more prolific than rabbits and appeared to have married into just about every other family in Coedpoeth I don't think we will ever see the end of the Carringtons - so much for lead poisoning and pubs eh?? ;D ;D
