We all know that the IGI is not very good for this area, and as I have lots of records collected over the last few years I thought it would be a good idea to submit them.
I emailed Family Search and this is the reply. I`m not 100% sure about it all but I`m sure some of you might like to see how it works, and try it yourselves.
The records found on the FamilySearch Web site are compiled from many databases. Files in some databases cannot be changed.
To submit, correct, or add data to the Pedigree Resource File (PRF) database, save your information as a GEDCOM file. Additional submissions may correct inaccurate data but do not replace prior submissions.
Pedigree Resource File
To submit to Pedigree Resource File, you must have a GEDCOM file saved to your hard drive. Then, do the following:
Go to the FamilySearch Web site (www.familysearch.org).
Click the Share tab.
Click Share My Genealogy.
Sign on to the site with your user name and password.
Click I am ready to submit.
Read the conditions, and click I Accept.
A screen will appear that lists three steps:
Step 1: Type the location and file name of the GEDCOM file you want to submit to FamilySearch, or click Browse to locate your GEDCOM file on your computer.
Step 2: Type a brief description of your GEDCOM file.
Step 3: (Optional) If you have Web pages created from this GEDCOM file and would like us to link to those pages, enter the URL of the root, or index, page.
Click Submit. You will be shown the submission number and the name of the file you submitted.
Note: Corrections to data previously submitted to the Pedigree Resource File are not possible. If you find errors in the data that you or someone else submitted, you must make another submission. Your submission will appear on a future CD or DVD. This will not replace the previous submission.
International Genealogical Index
The International Genealogical Index (IGI) contains information as it appeared on the original record or submission.
An alternative to correcting the information on the IGI is to submit the accurate information to Pedigree Resource File on the FamilySearch Web site.
