Hi Barb
I have decided to move this thread here so not to cause any confusion, hopefully some nice admin chap will move the other relevant posts here too )
From your information it was pretty vague where to find your elusive ancestors but with a bit of a struggle because of the confusion over name changes i did manage to track them down
Working backwards from the latest records i could find,
David Wilson Pugh is mentioned in the marriage of Catherine Pugh and Neilson Thorpe in 1902 (this can be found on the Minera Parish Registers site)
the marriage details are as follows:
7th October 1902
Neilson Peter Jacobson Thorpe occupation Baker aged 32 Batchelor of Minera, Son of William Thorpe, Plasterer married
Catherine Pugh aged 24 Spinster of Minera, Daughter of David Wilson Pugh Miner
The witnesses were David William Pugh who I believe to be Catherine's brother and Margaret Bond Thorpe who I also believe to be Neilson's sister
a bit of background information on Neilson is that he was born in Liverpool
also on the parish records there is another entry of a marriage relating to Susannah Pugh and Robert Edwards as follows:
31st March 1896
Robert Edwards Occupation Collier Widower of the New Inn, Coedpoeth, son of Edward Edwards Inn Keeper married
Susannah Pugh spinster of the Queens Head Inn, Smelt Coedpoeth , daughter of David Pugh, Inn Keeper
Witnesses were Robert Williams and Annie Edwards
The reason I believe this to be your David Pugh is that in JC Davis book Pubs and Inquests it is mentioned that in 1892 the landlord was a David Price but is mentioned in the marriages as David Pugh (seems to fit )

David Prise is shown as a lodger aged 33 a Lead Miner from Shropshire Bromlow
I cannot locate David or Richard Price/Pugh in the 1851 census
