Does anyone remember Coedpoeth Youth Choir from around 1945 onward. Leader was Miss Hilda Edwards - and Mrs Louie Parry the pianist. Rehearsals took place twice weekly, Sunday afternoon in Adwy Chapel, and in the vestry of the chapel on Thursday evenings. The choir gave many recitals, including a trip to Holland that involved a broadcast on Dutch radio, and a recital of hymns at Niemmegan War Cemetary. Also a trip to Madrid in 1948/49 to compete in an eisteddfod type competition, organised by Mr Harold Tudor of The British Council, who was a resident of Coedpoeth at the time. Mr Tudor was also instrumental in organising foreign choirs and dancers appearing at the original Llangollen International Eisteddfod.

I certainly remember Coedpoeth Youth Choir. Although not a member of the choir I took part in the German Youth Exchange programme that Louie Parry set up as a result of contacts made through her involvement with the choir and Harold Tudor. I applied for my first passport in 1958 in order to stay with a family in Bielefeld. I think there was a Bielefeld Choir that took part at the Llangollen Eisteddfod? This was my first trip 'abroad' and probably the start of a love of travel and meeting people from other cultures that has taken me to many parts of the world so I have always been grateful to Louie Parry. When the groups of German young people came to stay in Coedpoeth the walk over Minera mountain to Llangollen was always a feature of the programme. In those days the amount of foreign currency you could have was strictly limited and had to be entered in your passport. I see that I exchanged £10 at the National Provincial Bank Wrexham on 23/7/58, so was probably in Germany 50 years ago today. I will drink to that !! Was anyone else on this trip?

My parents were both on this trip John Myrddin Roberts and Joan Wynne Hulmes - I think my mum has some photos of the trip- i'll check with her. My dad J M Roberts eventually became the conductor of Cantorion Coedpoeth which followed on from the Youth Choir until his death in 1971
